The Holocaust Museum in Washington marked Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday, honoring donors who support the institution, including Lebanese banker Antoun Sehnaoui. Sehnaoui shared a photo from the event on his account, taken with his partner, Morgan Ortagus, the former US envoy to Lebanon. Ortagus delivered a speech at the event, thanking Antoun and his family, who “trained him to be a supporter of the state of Israel.” She added that what Sehnaoui does is considered illegal under Lebanese law, which she described as “ridiculous laws.” Sehnaoui is listed among the donors to the Holocaust Museum, while depositors at his bank, SGBL, are still struggling to access their frozen funds.

On Wednesday, artist and filmmaker Ali Cherri and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) filed a complaint in French courts over the Israeli military’s bombing of Cherri’s family apartment in the Mazraa-Barbour area of Beirut on November 26, 2024. The attack occurred just ten hours before the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel took effect, killing seven civilians, including Cherri’s parents. Based on the digital reconstruction by Forensic Architecture and the documentation by Amnesty International, the complaint emphasizes that the attack on the building was deliberate and holds the Israeli occupation forces responsible for the bombing. These findings reveal a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which requires distinguishing between military targets and civilian objects. Accordingly, the complaint was filed on the grounds of a war crime consisting of a deliberate attack against a civilian target, an offense punishable under French criminal law.
