Below is a pick-up from a Facebook post dated February 5, 2025: “Last Thursday night, which was the second night of the Chinese New Year, in the middle of writing an angry song, an afflatus-like idea popped up in my head, and I had this strong urge to write it all down right there and then. Within an hour, I got both the lyrics and the melody. While I’d attribute this divine experience to a defense mechanism by my subconsciousness, I did feel that my mother was talking to me through the song, because it is not my style to write myself a pep talk, and I would never have the nerve to think I deserve self-forgiveness or had indeed tried my best. I’m embarrassed to say not only did I cry the whole time while making the lyric MV, watching the video also never fails to bring tears to my eyes. However, the song does comfort me a great deal. (中文往下滑) Oh, pre-check-in communication, the importance of which I can never overemphasize to any self-respecting five-star hotels. When I was in Jarkata, Indonesia last week, I was planning to stay at InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, of IHG One Rewards, for five nights, followed by two nights trying out a local brand, #keratonattheplaza, now part of the Unbound Collection by hyatt. However, I was so offended by the lie spewed in the email reply from #InterContinentalJakarta, I did not want to invest more time on corresponding with that property. I simply canceled my booking the evending before the check-in and, instead, extended my stay at Keraton from two to four nights, with the remaining three nights at #parkhyattjakarta. Using the aforementioned three hotels in Jakarta as examples, I will write a three-part essay on the why a pre-arrival welcome email should be taken very seriously by highend and luxury hotels. Each part will also serve as a full review on one of the three hotels. For now, though, please enjoy the latest offering of my “HOTEL BEDS Showcases.” Long story short, I’ve fallen in love with Park Hyatt. Tomorrow after I complete my très très bumpy ride on LVMH’s E&O Express, a Belmond Train, I will fly to Bali, Indonesia for a four-night stay in a one-bedroom garden villa with a private pool at InterContinental Bali Sanur Resort, one of IHG Hotels & Resorts . I truly hope I will enjoy my stay in Bali, as InterContinental by IHG has been my go-to brand for years. However, my experiences at the last three IC properties were simply awful, so I am beginning to doubt the value of being a 120-night Diamond Ambassador Elite Member.
