On this day 3 years ago, we were tucked just northeast of a tight surface low in Nebraska and caught this incredible tornado near Spalding. The day before, we also saw a slew of photogenic tornadoes on the same low in Western Kansas. Favorite chase stretch of 2023 fosho

3 years ago tonight, a violent tornado tore through the town of Rolling Fork, MS. The aftermath was and still is the most humbled I've ever been in 18 years of storm chasing. I remember pulling into Rolling Fork just after the tornado passed, we had shot this video SW of town, so I didn't know if it was a direct hit or a graze. Initially I thought the tornado may have passed just north as I could only see relatively minor damage in front of us. We were still in the RFD so visibility was rough, but as the wind decreased, a lightning flash revealed that everything around us was flattened. We spent the next hour or so pulling residents out of rubble on Mulberry Street. The fire and police station had been hit, so recourses were limited and I remember feeling helpless, not knowing what to tell people what to do after we got them out. I'd just say something like, "go towards the main highway and hang tight" as I assumed surrounding cities would send crews shortly. It felt like an eternity but soon EMS from Vicksburg and Yazoo City swarmed the town and we were able to leave. I've spent some time talking to people from Rolling Fork after this tragic event and it sounds like things are getting back to some sense of normalcy. I hope to visit again soon and reconnect with some of the folks we met on that terrible night.

Another intense night chase as Hurricane Milton slammed into Western Florida. Thankfully the surge did not get as high as we expected, but it still inundated the lower lying areas. The winds on the backside also packed quite a punch! Full video can be found here -

A 24 Hour Difference The first shot is around 5pm yesterday when the probe was deployed, then first light around 7am shows approximately 3-5 feet of surge on the backside of the storm, only to be mostly gone by 5pm today. Sargent, TX - County Rd 201, looking SE.

Hard to believe it's been just over 3 years since Ian and 1 year since Helene, two of the most impactful hurricanes I've ever covered. The stories from these storms (both ours and the people we met along the way) will be with me forever. We're actually working on some exciting projects with Discovery and NatGeo that will really share these on a new level. One of which should be releasing pretty soon.
