It's all about the bones. The attractiveness of the male face is from our dimorphic traits: characteristics that are selected by male-male ritualistic tournaments over millenia. Features that allowed the male to win against another male, just like the number of ocelli largely dictate if a peacock will win the lekking contest. For human males, we threw fists at each others faces instead of shimmering a bunch of "eyes" in our feathers. The faces that were naturally defensible to the fist won the tournaments and reproduced. Whenever a bit of this facial armor is added, in the key regions that allow a male to absorb a punch, aesthetics go through the roof.
