On this day in 1867, an architect who captivated the American imagination was born. For more than seventy-five years, Frank Lloyd Wright played a central role in the development of modern architecture, leaving a lasting mark on the American landscape. The Frank Lloyd Wright Room was originally the living room of the Little family's summer home, designed and built between 1912 and 1914 in Wayzata, Minnesota. Together, Wright and the Littles created an interior that is expansive yet cozy, angular yet welcoming, global in its influences yet deeply rooted in the local landscape. ___ 🏠 Frank Lloyd Wright (American, Richland Center, Wisconsin 1867–1959 Phoenix, Arizona), “Living Room from the Francis W. Happy New Year from The Met! 🪩 Start 2025 with a closer look at Awol Erizku's dazzling "Nefertiti–Miles Davis," a mirrored tile bust of the Egyptian queen inspired by Miles Davis’s 1968 album Nefertiti. Suspended from the ceiling and rotating like a disco ball, this work explores the intersection of music and visual art, highlighting diasporic connections to ancient Egypt. Erizku frequently features Nefertiti in his work, blending references from culture coded as "urban" and the art-historical canon to examine themes of race, identity, and history. 🎨 Awol Erizku (Ethiopian American, 1988).
