The jet stream is strengthening over the Atlantic, helping to drive a succession of low-pressure systems towards the UK. Expect spells of wet and windy weather over the coming days. Keep up to date with warnings here 👇

A wet start to Wednesday morning for many with strong winds across parts of the southwest England and Wales initially The rain and stronger winds will then spread eastwards through the day ☔🍂

Storm Adam continues to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to western parts of the Mediterranean Some areas of Spain, France and Italy could see 200 to 300 mm of rain over the coming days, raising the risk of flooding and disruption ⛈️🌧️

A wet and cloudy start for many on Tuesday, but brighter conditions will gradually spread eastwards as rain clears northwards, with the best of the sunshine developing across some western areas. ☔➡️☀️

Remaining unsettled this evening, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting many areas. However, a drier interlude is expected across parts of central England and Wales, where some clear spells may develop for a time

Rain on the move tomorrow morning, pushing north and west from England and Wales into Scotland and Northern Ireland 🌧️ Meanwhile, some sunny spells will develop further south ☀️

The Met Office has named #StormAusten The storm is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain across the UK on Thursday night and Friday The strongest winds will be across the southwest of England and into southern Wales. Stay #WeatherAware ⚠️

Windy in the southwest of England and Wales tonight, with 50-60 mph gusts possible around exposed coasts Lighter winds further east at first on Wednesday, before winds quickly strengthen and spread eastwards, with 40-50 mph gusts possible inland

Whilst much of this autumn has been quite quiet, things have now taken a change 🌧️ As the strengthening jet stream runs across the UK we have some stormy weather to come. Watch this week’s deep dive with Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill ➡️

What’s this week got in store for you? Increasingly unsettled with cloud, rain and some brighter spells, before turning wet and windy into Friday 🌧️💨

Some lively showers across the southeast, with Kent and Essex likely to see the highest rainfall accumulations. Don’t rule out the odd rumble of thunder either! ⛈️
