We lowered the water level for our little hippo’s first swim, and Iris couldn’t resist playing with the exposed water jet! 🦛💦 Mom and baby had a blast splashing around and loved the water massage.

Nope, not a dinosaur. 🦕 Just a Galapagos tortoise hissing! 🐢 Since tortoises don't have vocal chords, they make noise by expelling air, especially while eating or moving around. #metrorichmondzoo #rva #tortoise #cuteanimals

Poppy may be one year old, but baby hippo chaos energy doesn’t take a snow day. While it’s freezing outside, Poppy and Iris are staying cozy in the indoor pool, where it’s a humid 85 degrees.

Poppy party! 🎉 The Virginia Zoo's Poppy 🦧, a 7-month-old Bornean orangutan, got on a quick ZooTime video call with Poppy 🦛, the 2-month-old pygmy hippo at Metro Richmond Zoo. We’d say the call went “swimmingly,” but unlike hippos, orangutans aren’t known for their ability to swim.
