BREAKING NEWS: Cincinnati has landed a commitment from 2027 5 star SG Kam Mercer (Kameron Mercer). Mercer was originally in the 2028 class but has since reclassified and will now be an upcoming senior. Currently ranked the 11th player in the class of 2028 prior to the announcement of his reclassification. Should be a consensus Top-20 player in 2027. Now becomes the highest rated ranked Bearcat in program history ahead of Cincinnati great Lance Stephenson. A full circuit moment for the Cincinnati native. Cincinnati was his first offer back in 2024 as an eighth grader. A Peach Jam Champion, Gold Medalist, State Champion. Believe the only high school player in recent years to have that elite pedigree is Cam Boozer. Mercer shared an exclusive message for the Bearcat fans following his commitment. “Bearcats a top-25 team in the country. Jerrod Calhoun has won everywhere he has been. I have no fear of UC not making the tournament even if it’s coach Calhoun’s first year. I fully believe that will be an NCAA Tournament team. Bearcats are back. We’re here to stay. Coach Calhoun is here to stay. This is what’s going on and I’m going to tell you how it’s going to happen.”

Evan Tengesdahl told us this afternoon there was no discussion of Offensive lineman opting out of the Liberty Bowl. Stated the whole offensive line group wanted to play with hopes of sending Gavin Gerhardt out with one final victory. Gerhardt, a sixth year offensive lineman and three-time team caption is currently tied for the most starts at center in program history. Come January 2nd, he will watch his name into the record books. Really cool moment and story to hear the offensive lineman come together for one final time with hopes of sending Gerhardt off on top.

Mardy Gilyard (Mardy Gilyard) overcome with emotion talking about his journey at Cincinnati. Gilyard worked four jobs and slept in his car after he was ruled ineligible in the 2005 season. He reflects on his journey that eventually led him to the Cincinnati HOF “I thought I was never going to make it. I took a chance that I couldn’t even see the future in. I really, really, wanted to be a Bearcat. It’s a blessing that I will forever have a C-Paw next to my name and across my chest. I am Cincinnati football and I showed that.” The Front Office News

However he gave huge credit to Cincinnati tight ends coach Josh Stepp (Coach Stepp) during our conversations earlier this week. “That’s my tight end coach, but honestly I view him as a best friend. I credit him for a lot. He really saved my football career. He’s helped me find my love and joy for the game again after everything that took place at Ohio State. I can’t thank him enough.
