Today is the publication day of Sex, Gender Identity and the Law! To coincide with this, the Faculty of Law and Keble College, Oxford, have put together videos exploring themes from the book. Under the Equality Act, the default position is that services must be open to everyone. If you want to discriminate to separate provision, you need to rely on a specific exception to do so. There are exceptions for single-sex services, but they need to be provided based on biological sex for the exception to apply

I spoke to Times Radio yesterday about the decision in For Women Scotland that sex in the Equality Act means biological sex. One thing we drew out was how poorly served transgender people have been by misinformation about what legal rights they do or don’t have:
