My son didn't know I was the "Michael Redd" in NBA 2K. When I was still playing, he didn't put 2 and 2 together. The video game character REDD and his dad were two different people in his mind. Now, as I recently found out as I leaned into social, teens who never saw me play know who I am because of 2K. That's pretty special!

Knicks pull off a Game 4 W for the ages. My takeaways: -The Spurs need a heartbreak to prep for their eventual Championship, and tonight was it. Every great team has gone through this. They'll cry in the locker room tonight and be better for it in the coming seasons -I never felt SAS' lead was safe. The Knicks are the more mature team, they're physical, and they smell blood when it's in the water. You can't let a team like that hang around. You gotta kill them off fully -Experience is trumping talent in this series. The Spurs are the most talented team left, but the "somewhat" talented, ultra-experienced extremely gritty Knicks know how to close. Last year's heartbreak, imo, against Indiana built this -Beat the Spurs now. Because Wemby and Dylan Harper for the next 10 years is scary.

Spurs take Game 6. Here's my quick reaction: -Dylan Harper is good... -...So good, San Antonio likely needs to start him next year and move De'Aaron to the bench (or move him) -Wemby played well, but still needs to get touches closer to the rim -Whether the Spurs win Game 7 or not, they've won just by getting this experience. Everyone now has to plan for the Spurs in 2027 and beyond

Reasons I'll never forget Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals: I'm in Ireland on a long-planned bucket list golf trip, so: I "had" to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the game. And I got to do so after playing Rosapenna. I've never watched a game, let alone a Finals game, in the middle of the night. And I've never played golf like that before. I almost shot a higher score than the Spurs. Never mind that, though.😂 But for real, basketball and the NBA really are international. So many people were talking about the game in Ireland today. It's cool and surreal at the same time. (Much like links golf.) Excited to do it all again with Game 2, where I plan to record my musings on the game right afterwards and discuss it with y'all.

Thunder take Game 5. Here's my quick reaction: -Isaiah Hartenstein played just about as well as he can (on both sides of the ball) -Jared McCain gave me shades of Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson -Chet not only played well, he played tall and tough -The Spurs youth and inexperience cracked through -No one is going to fold. Game 6 should be great. Get ya popcorn ready!

Spurs win Game 7. My Takeaways: -The Spurs arrived a year or two earlier than anyone thought they would. Have they shifted a narrative? -This was an incredible and enjoyable series. I could easily have watched 7 more games of it -Every team needs to now plan for the Spurs and, to that end, I believe Sam Presti will at least kick the tires on acquiring Giannis

People keep asking for Kobe stories. I don't usually share them cause it feels like I'm trying to get attention off his name. But with Hall of Fame weekend, this one feels right to tell. We're together, getting ready for the Olympics. Some of us are teaching Kobe dominoes. He'd never played before, somehow. Me, personally? One of my vets, Gary Payton, showed me the ropes. Can't imagine being a decade into the NBA without playing, ha, but you know Kobe, that day he's asking every single question, trying to learn the game. But I'm convinced It wasn't really about dominoes. It was about being one of the guys and bringing the team together. Everyone talks about Kobe’s basketball IQ, and rightfully so. But that's elite EQ. He knew exactly what he was doing. Miss that guy.

Spurs take Game 4 of the WCF. My quick reaction: -Physical begets physical...Spurs answered the bell tonight -Wemby is, by nature, unselfish but we need more of this -Harrison Barnes played the Caruso role tonight -Chess move to sit SGA, who is dog-tired, in the fourth and get him a little extra rest for Game 5

Allan Houston is one of the most slept-on players ever. Top 4 guys I had to guard, right there with AI, Kobe, and LeBron. We used to call him H2O because he was water. (He called me Redd Hot, ha.) Great player. Even better person. And someone I look up to as a hooper, father, and husband.

Knicks win the NBA Finals. My quick thoughts: -Team of destiny. Every game this series they were down double digits and found a way to win 4. That's grit, and it's an embodiment of the city itself. They won 15 of their last 16. Historic! -This whole thing starts with Jalen Brunson. His bball IQ might be the best in the league. He manipulated those young Spurs in the pick and roll. Love a good lefty! -Mike Brown finally got his. I've known him for years, and he's been int he game forever, and he put on a coaching masterclass with his staff. Shout out to Chris Jent too. Guy deserves a head coaching gig -OG Anunoby was incredible. Josh Hart was an engine, diving on the floor, squeezing the Spurs late. The Knicks wanted this one, bad! -As for the Spurs, no shame in this. You can't skip steps. They had to go through the heartbreak and they'll be back better for it. Wemby and Dylan Harper have the chance to be the next great All-NBA duo Congrats, New York. The city's gonna be hopping all summer.

OKC Thunder take Game 3 of the WCF. My quick reaction: -Mark Daigneault coached like a COTY tonight -Jared McCain is playing with supreme confidence -Shai was better than his numbers. Caruso made lot of winning plays. OKC's depth is awesome -San Antonio Spurs started 15-0. OKC didn't flinch. Championship mettle. Spurs can't afford to lose Game 4, obviously.

Knicks are headed to the NBA Finals. My quick reaction: -This has been a couple year process, but the Knicks made the leap at the right time under Mike Brown -Jalen Brunson is playing like a top 5 guy in the NBA right now -Knicks offense is rolling, but don't sleep on their defense (or on their health) -Chris Jent deserves a lot of credit behind the scenes -This will be a fun NBA Finals!

Had to give Kings rook Nique Clifford his flowers...and a little OG advice. I remember being that guy my rookie year, barely getting minutes. Took me into Year 2 (and really 3) to really get going. otn_nique, though, is starting to figure it out right now. Just look at the tape of his 26 from Sacramento's game yesterday. When your chance finally comes, you make it count.

That perfect KD/Tee Morant trash talk got me thinking. Gary Payton could talk with the best of them. He'd get under your skin and use it to his on-court advantage. When people talked junk me, I took it as respect. You can't stop me, so you try to beat me another way. Me? I prefer to kill people with kindness. Nice shot, nice shot... gets in their head every time, be it hoops, dominoes, or golf.

What a (story)time. 🏅 Back in 2005, Jerry Colangelo called me up to Chicago for a USA Basketball interview. I showed up in sweats, but I had my suit in a bag. When I met the basketball legend, I asked if I could duck into the restroom real quick. Came out in a full suit and tie. Wanted to show him I took representing my country seriously. By the end of the interview, I knew I was on the team. Three years later, we brought home gold as the “Redeem Team.” This coming weekend, we’re getting inducted into Basketball HOF as a team. Still can’t believe it. Proud to have been part of something bigger than basketball, something that’s stood the test of time.
