Uneducated. Uncivilized. Still annoying some people with basic logic and the dangerous habit of thinking for myself.

The divers who came to retrieve the bodies of the Italian divers are among the most experienced cave divers in the world. Two of them were involved in the infamous Plura Cave Incident. Patrik Grönqvist survived the Plura tragedy and later refused to leave his friend’s body inside the cave system. He returned into the cave with a small group of fellow divers on an extremely dangerous recovery mission. One of the divers who joined him was Sami Paakkarinen and he was also part of the Maldives recovery mission. I am honestly shocked after watching this. A minister going on national TV and sharing what was said on a victim support helpline… just a day after someone died by suicide? How can we as a country let this be the normal. It’s unprofessional and unethical. That was someone’s most vulnerable moment. Those conversations are supposed to be sacred, protected, private, safe. Instead, they were exposed live on TV. Not only does this violate her dignity, it puts out raw, triggering details that can deeply affect others who are already struggling. Additionally, if this is how confidential helplines are treated, how can anyone else feel safe enough to reach out for help? Government and ministers are not supposed to stoop to the level of social media gossip groups. Those at the top are meant to set the example, by holding themselves to the highest standards, always. That didn’t happen here. So I’m asking the media and everyone on social platforms: please take up that responsibility yourselves. Do not repeat what was said. Do not amplify or share her msgs. Protect what little dignity and trust remains.

Meet Salmaan, a 19-year-old who chose to spend his teenage years learning, exploring, and gaining real-life knowledge instead of scrolling endlessly online. He’s the first teenager I’ve met in the Maldives who isn’t on any social media platform at all. He wakes up early, goes diving, and spends his evenings fishing, catch and release only, he doesn’t even eat them. Was honestly surprised to meet someone his age living this differently. Currently doing his internship at Addu Suba Dive Maldives, a center that offers apprenticeship programs to youths. Contact: +9607255005 TikTok: Addu Scuba Dive Maldives Insta: @adduscubadive

If MDP wants people with common sense to take its criticism of this government seriously, it should stop putting people like Ameer at the forefront of that conversation. Yes, PNC government has mismanaged public finances. Yes, there is waste, corruption, and poor economic decision-making. But let’s not pretend Maldives’ current fiscal crisis began overnight in late 2023. Yameen administration borrowed heavily, but much of that borrowing went into infrastructure and projects intended to generate economic returns. Foreign investment also increased, helping ease the foreign currency pressures that had existed during the Nasheed/Waheed years. That’s why there was no USD crisis during YAG administration. By the end of that administration, public debt stood at roughly USD 2 billion externally and MVR 20 billion domestically. Then came five years of MDP. In addition to issuing a USD 600 million sukuk to refinance the USD 250 million sovereign bond, billions of rufiyaa were printed and injected into the economy devaluing MVR. Hundreds of millions more were borrowed for projects with questionable financial viability ( ex: Thilamale’ bridge ) while external debt doubled to around USD 4 billion and domestic debt to around MVR 40 billion. At the same time, without creating anything of value, existing valuable state assets, including Hulhumale land worth billions, were given away through free allocations while several billions were given to companies as “settlements” Ameer was the Finance Minister driving many of those decisions. Now this government is repeating many of the same mistakes, printing money through different mechanisms, continuing giveaways, wasteful spending, and corruption. That’s precisely why Ameer is one of the least convincing people to lecture the country on fiscal responsibility. Maldives doesn’t need to keep replacing one failed economic approach with another that has already been tested. That’s the cycle we’ve been trapped in since the introduction of the multi-party system. Ameer speaking about fiscal responsibility is giving replace trash with tested trash vibe, not a reform vibe.

When you're hitting 177km/h on a public road, the wind isn't the issue, it's the risk to your life and everyone else's. Speed thrills but on public roads, it also kills! Please, please ride smart and keep the thrill on the track, not where families drive. Maldives Police

I asked Maldives Airports Company Ltd staff to contact Beijing Capital Airlines’ ground handler (Voyages Maldives). The airline staff could not come to assist but spoke over the phone. Their position was clear: They have no SOP to provide immediate assistance or even attend the case proactively from their side, all the burdens are on the passengers they are expected to: • Manage on their own ( note: most of our arrivals are tourists ) • Go home however they can • Buy a new suitcase if necessary • Submit a claim later with receipts and hope for reimbursement Now the serious Q: How is an airline allowed to operate at the main international airport of a top global tourist destination without internationally practiced minimum passenger assistance standards? Legal liability sits with the airline. But service standards inside the terminal fall under airport oversight. If MACL does not require airlines to follow defined passenger assistance standards, that is a regulatory gap that must be addressed. World class airport happens when airport operator require, establish and enforce world class standard and services

In the end one Maldives Airports Company Ltd staff personally helped me find a belt so I could strap the broken luggage. He did this out of goodwill, not because of any formal process. Individual kindness is appreciated. But systems should not depend on individual kindness. This isn’t about one suit case. This isn’t about one airline. This is about the over 1 BILLION USD we spent on this airport. This is about the first impression of Maldives. The job of Gov and MACL is not just to build terminals it is also to make this 1B airport experience world-class. We are a tourism depended country and for most tourists, the airport is their first experience of the Maldives. It sets the first impression. Everyone else on my flight was Chinese. Imagine if a tourist with language barriers faced this situation. Imagine struggling with broken luggage, no clear process, no guidance. What impression of the Maldives would that leave? A billion-dollar airport must have minimum, enforceable passenger assistance standards. World-class infrastructure means nothing without world-class systems and here we are talking about MINIMUM passenger assistance standards. If service standards are not clearly required and enforced, then the investment has not delivered what was promised, it ain’t helping our global top tourist destination brand and our tax money was wasted. cc Mohamed Firaq

This vid has been going viral on Chinese social media, and as a Maldivian, I found it really interesting. He was the village head to a small village called Yongxing in Guizhou Province, a community of around 2,000 people, not very different from one of our islands. During his tenure, he focused on lifting people out of poverty, helping villagers build their own businesses, and stand on their own feet as a community. When his term ended and he was about to leave, the villagers literally broke down in tears, walking with him to see him off. It makes me wonder, will we ever see a day when an island council head or an MP serves their people so well that islanders and constituents cry, beg them to stay, and ask them to continue serving!?

Before yesterday, I attended one of the most ridiculous ICOM hearings I’ve seen so far. Summary: 2023: MDP finalized the “Dhaaimee List” for Fahi flats. 2024: PNC gov started reviewing it, some on 2023 list disqualified, some newly added, without ever publishing the updated list. I asked the ministry for a copy of the permanent list with the changes. The ministry refused to share the list and replied that the permanent list (Dhaaimee List) is still the 2023 list. So they admit they are changing 2023 list, yet insist the 2023 list is PERMANENT. They admit they have a list which they send to HDC for draw process, admit some people have already got flats and yet no list to show to public. What an exchange. Note: I don’t blame the officers from ministry who are forced to justify the unjustifiable because gov don’t want to share the list.

Just managed to watch the video released yesterday, here is my observation: 04:50 Yumnu is seen walking up from the 9th floor to either the fanlight area or terrace ( At this time, Raudhu is on the 7th floor ) 04:51 About 50 seconds later, Raudhu walks up to where Yumnu is ( fanlight area or the terrace) 04:53 Raudhu is with Yumnu for about 1 minute and 50 seconds. He then descends and takes the elevator down. 05:05 After about 11 minutes, Raudhu returns to the 9th floor and begins searching for Yumnu. This suggests that Yumnu could have “fallen” during one of two possible time frames: 1. During the 1 minute and 50 seconds when Raudhu was with her. 2. During the 11-minute interval after Raudhu left and before he returned.

If you’re alive to witness this moment, you’re watching something extraordinarily rare in human history. The most powerful military force on earth has issued an ultimatum, submit or be destroyed. Three hours left before Trumps deadline to annihilate Iranian civilization. American bombers have already departed from UK bases. Gulf countries declared curfew. Most politicians in the region fled to Europe. And yet, across Iran, the response is exact opposite. Millions across Iran have taken to the streets. Not to flee, but to stand. To choose dignity over surrender. To face whatever comes with their heads held high. They would rather die than to submit to zionists. I have read about Persian civilization enduring for over 2,600 years, through invasions-fall-rebuilding, driven by resilience and an unbreakable refusal to yield. But to witness that spirit unfolding in real time… it feels almost unreal. History is not always written in books. Sometimes, it unfolds right in front of us.

The strategy on both sides is straightforward. Protesters are eager to enter Majeedhee Magu precisely because they are prohibited from doing so, if they succeed, the police would be forced to make arrests. Meanwhile, the police aim to prevent any entry. As long as the police line holds, the number of attendees is largely irrelevant, it will simply remain another protest without significant disruption. Police have held the line now for almost 2 hours now
