BRITAIN WAS ALREADY USING STABILIZED TANK GUNS IN KOREA IN 1952 This is a British Centurion showing off its gun stabilisation while moving, basically keeping the gun trained on target even as the tank is bouncing around. And they’re firing ridiculously fast too, about one round every three seconds in this footage. The Centurion was one of Britain’s big post-war tanks, and British units were using them around the Imjin River in Korea. For a tank from the early 50s, watching that gun stay on target while the whole thing is moving is honestly pretty wild. British tank tech was getting seriously advanced for its time.

THIS IS WHAT BRITISH ARTILLERY LOOKED LIKE IN THE GULF WAR. In 1991, 32 Regiment Royal Artillery took 12 enormous 203mm M110 howitzers into the desert during Operation Granby. The artillery raids began on February 18, several days before the ground offensive. Batteries would move into position, fire a predetermined number of rounds at Iraqi targets, then move again before counter-fire could find them. And these weren't exactly small guns. Watching the crews load and fire these things, you can see just how physical artillery was back then. Everything had to be done by hand, quickly and under pressure. It's easy to forget just how much firepower the British Army was still built around in 1991.

THIS WAS THE BRITISH ARMY FIGHTING ITS WAY INTO BASRA IN 2003. During the invasion of Iraq, Britain's 7th Armoured Brigade pushed towards Basra with Challenger 2 tanks, Warriors and infantry from units including the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and Irish Guards. On 26 March, a large Iraqi tank force tried to attack the British positions. Challenger 2s of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards engaged them, with 15 Iraqi T-55s destroyed and no British tanks lost in the battle. A few days later, British forces were pushing into Basra itself. Watching this footage now, it's easy to forget just how much of the British Army was committed to this operation. These weren't training exercises. This was the REAL thing.

🚨 THIS WAS THE MOMENT BRITAIN WATCHED THE SAS GO TO WAR LIVE ON TV. In 1980, six gunmen stormed the Iranian Embassy in London and took 26 people hostage. After six days, one hostage was killed and the SAS was ordered in. Operation Nimrod was caught on camera, with the opening moments of the raid being broadcast live to millions of people watching at home. Just 17 minutes later, it was over. All but one of the remaining hostages had been rescued and five of the six gunmen were killed. The fact that this was happening in central London and being shown live on TV makes this footage even crazier. British military history has some absolutely incredible moments.
