Earlier today, Hon. Dr Charles Ayume , Minister of State for Health in charge of Primary Health Care has conducted a technical visit to Namatala Health Center IV in a bid to assess service delivery, infrastructure, equipment and emerging gaps at the facility. The public health facility, recently upgraded from Health Center II to Health Center IV, handles a significant maternity workload, with between 300 and 400 deliveries recorded every month. The facility has five incubators, among other essential equipments, to support newborn care. During the visit, the facility in-charge appealed for support to expand the health centre, including provision of adequate space for staff accommodation. He also requested a standby generator to address frequent power challenges, particularly during theatre operations, which can contribute to unnecessary referrals. In response, Hon. Ayume, accompanied by senior Ministry of Health officials, tasked the District Health Teams to engage relevant stakeholders and advocate for additional land to facilitate future expansion and construction of new blocks. He noted that, as a minimum planning standard, a Health Center IV should have at least one acre of land to allow for adequate infrastructure development. The Minister further guided District Health Teams to ensure that ambulances remain available for emergency response and are not overly individualized or restricted to particular facilities or cases, especially when needed to respond to other emergencies within the district. #MOHatWork | #HealthSpotChecksUG
