Varley, a head of year at a secondary school in Lancashire, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley (a financial sales manager) had adopted little Preston (birth name Elijah). As a Luton girl born and raised (I no longer live here), this 2012 footage of Tommy Robinson 🇬🇧 being confronted and slapped by Islamist SAIF in Bury Park is a reminder of what we were already dealing with over a DECADE ago. I am 39, I walked through these streets with my mum. We'd pop into Woolworths, browse the shops, and it still felt like part of our town. Those days are long gone and have been for a long time. Today, Bury Park is far worse. I still have family in the area, but I would not challenge any White British to walk through there now as it will result in tension. The warning signs were visible in 2012 and have hardened into daily realities.

In 2019, Aaron Booth forced his way into his ex-partner’s home in Glossop, repeatedly stabbed her in front of police officers, and held a knife to her throat following a sustained and vicious assault. He was jailed for 14 years. Her bravery in coming forward and allowing her story to be shared has helped raise awareness of the devastating reality of domestic abuse and may help protect other women. The judge told her: “You have been brave in the extreme. You have not just protected yourself, you have protected other women.” I completely echo the judge’s words.
