2 years since this tweet and Tems is the first big pop star I’ve seen make an Afrobeats 3-Step single. The original South African style is more in the lineage of dance music while Tems is mostly just taking the kick pattern and translating it into a more digestible pop song form.

In the early 1980s, the Boston radio station WGBH commissioned the 28-year-old choreographer Marta Renzi to make a half-hour PBS special. The result was her first film, YOU LITTLE WILD HEART (1981), soundtracked non-stop by Bruce Springsteen songs. It’s so good. Here’s a clip.
