⚠️ A string of wildfires began earlier this afternoon, stretching from the Minnesota border up to the north of Lake Nipigon in Ontario, Canada. This sudden area of wildfires may result in hazier and smokier skies over the next 3-5 days as the high pressure system spins clockwise off to our southwest, allowing for continuous flow to bring smoke southward into Michigan. This is brand new development, and we continue to monitor potential impacts around the region. This could make going outside over the next several days extremely hazardous due to the combination of poor air quality, and excessive heat with temperatures around 100°F. Upper Peninsula and Isle Royale residents will be the most at-risk. Post as of 8:20 pm EDT 7/13/26.

Here is our second reported meteor of the evening which fell around 9:31 pm EDT here on 3/23/26. This meteor fell from south to north towards central Michigan, as captured looking north from both our Jan's Professional Dry Cleaners, Inc camera in Frankenmuth, and our A & S Garage Llc camera in Dundee. It's already DUMPING across the far western Upper Peninsula shortly after midnight here on November 26th, 2025! Our Timberline Sports camera in Bergland, MI shows just that. Radar shows rates over 2" per hour moving into the area soon. Let's just hope our camera doesn't get completely snow covered, so we can continue to enjoy heavy snow falling! We have 88 weather cameras situated at local businesses around the state, and while not all of them are live to the public, you'll see many views posted right here exclusively at Michigan Storm Chasers throughout the next couple of days. You can watch some of them live at "Michigan Weather Network" on YouTube.

The Cheboygan dam continues to flow wide open, and water levels are reportedly starting to rise once again today as more rain has impacted and will continue to impact the area. This was the scene earlier this morning moments before the M6 pileup near Broadmoor Ave. Evan was driving eastbound in a snow squall with visibility down to 100 feet when a crew helping a disabled vehicle popped out of the curtain of snow. Moments later, the pileup occurs behind him. This video serves as a true reminder of how dangerous it is to travel at higher speeds inside of a snow squall, especially when the roads are already slippery. 🎥 - Evan Heemstra - Alaska, MI (Near GRR Airport)

Shortly before midnight, we had multiple reports sent in of an extremely bright green flash in the sky to the north. We went back in our database of Aurora cameras to find the culprit… and here it is!! The Manistee camera had the best angle as the object streaked across the northern sky. You can even pick up on a faint auroral glow at the same time! Not only that, but you can see the streak left behind from the flash after it occurred. Time was 11:13 PM EDT and approximately 35 seconds, October 29th, 2025, for those who’d also like to check any home security cameras.
