It's funny when people claim to love Aerith (or even cosplay as her), but their tone changes the moment she starts showing what she truly wants and not acting the way they want her to act. Anyone referring to this whole sequence as "wrong" or "weird" is a clear example of poor media literacy. The game couldn't have made it clearer right before this sequence played out with Zack and Marlene's conversation. In reality, Marlene said it twice. Is it really this difficult to understand this story?

Straight up is what Advent Children shows the viewer. Most of the movie, you visibly see in Tifa's animations, facial expressions, and tone that she feels like "a woman left behind by a man." Is it brutal? Yes, but intended to roll from OG end and the course of those 2 years.
