In 1931, Japan staged the September 18th Incident, marking the start of the country's invasion of China and the beginning of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. On August 15, 1945, Japan announced its unconditional surrender, bringing the War of Resistance to a victorious end. It was also of great significance to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. We remember August 15 not only because it marked the end of the war and suffering, but also because it reminds us to never forget history, to honor the fallen heroes, and to cherish peace.

The Cairo Declaration issued by China, the US, and the UK in 1943 explicitly stipulates that Japan shall be stripped of all the islands in the Pacific which it had seized or occupied since the beginning of the First World War in 1914, and that all the territories which Japan had stolen from China, such as Northeast China, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands, shall be restored to China. The restoration of Taiwan to China is an important part of the outcomes of WWII victory and the post-war international order.
