Today in 2011 an epic blast happened. Jim Thome scared Delmon with a HR measured at 490 feet…that may be inflated a little (10-25 ft). Still one of the great HRs in Target Field history!

Kent Hrbek turns 66 today. The best defensive 1B ever, 10th highest OBP in Twins history, 4th most games ever, 5th in runs, 6th in hits, 5th total bases, 4th in doubles, 293 HRs (2nd most), 2nd in RBIs, 3rd in walks. Deserved 3+ Gold Gloves. Had more walks than Ks in his career.

On this date in 1980 a miracle happened…the United States hockey team defeated the Soviet Union. Al Michaels and Ken Dryden were brilliant on the call.

OTD 1980 Team USA played the minor league Dallas Blackhawks. The 10-6 win probably displeased Herb Brooks, but it was the 40th win of their 61 game pre Olympic schedule. It was their 1st game without Ralph Cox who was the final cut a few days before. His words:
