No sitting president can treat former Heads of State as disposable without shattering public and institutional confidence. Last night’s events reveal a dangerous breakdown in command and control… Last night, after jointly demanding the restoration of press freedom and constitutional order in the #Maldives, former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen, and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih — two of whom survived assassination attempts — emerged into total chaos with zero crowd management by police. Forced into a volatile protest confronting Special Operations forces, repeated urgent pleas from their MNDF security details for safe passage to vehicles were ignored. Police pushed the former presidents and their teams roughly with shields through the crowd, reportedly causing minor injury to one. This reckless endangerment of former Heads of State is a grave constitutional violation that cannot go unanswered. Placing leaders who have already survived assassinations in such foreseeable danger is unforgivable. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu bears direct responsibility, driven by incompetence, ego, and abuse of power. Reappointing disgraced officer Ahmed Mohamed (“Two Four”) as Police Commissioner, despite prior graft allegations, exemplifies this failure. Bootlicker Minister Ali Ihusaan Minister of Homeland Security, Labour & Technology who ignores the law in blind loyalty, along with the on-ground commander and Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed, must face immediate accountability. An independent investigation is non-negotiable. This assault on democracy will not stand.
