Andrew Mwenda: Before MK took control of Kampala, no person wearing an NRM color could go downtown Kampala. They would get people (NRM supporters), if you looked a westerner, wearing yellow, strip women naked, beat them, harass them, they have even killed a police officer. The likes of Eddie Mutwe are now getting what they were meting out on others. Question: When and where did such things happen? What crimes have the likes of Eddie Mutwe been charged with and how far is their prosecution? How about Sam Mugumya, whom did he terrorise? As I said before, Andrew Mwenda is a very intelligent man, until the conversation turns to his idol, Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Suddenly, his intelligence seems to run on a rationing system.

“If Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba becomes president, he'll be worse than his father. He has absolutely no attachment to ordinary people. He started his life in State House, contrary to his father, who grew up in poverty and understands what people are going through, though he doesn't care. Muhoozi knows nothing other than the fact that he was born with power; he has a right to no competition and can exercise power without restraint”. Dr Kizza Besigye

When Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweets appointments or endorsements, beneficiaries trip over themselves groveling before him, no questions asked. When he tweets a command for his supporters to storm the Turkish embassy in Kampala, there are no questions asked. His supporters only wait for the day to act. But when he tweets threats to kill or harm people, or shares photos of tortured Ugandans, suddenly the tweets become jokes. Somehow, that's the comical side of him. Suddenly, the photos and videos are AI generated. Suddenly, people are "reading too much into it." Suddenly, it becomes hard to prove the tweets came from him personally. The same people who treated his appointments and endorsements as official now scramble to frame his threats as jokes. And they do so with straight faces. These are supposedly educated and enlightened people. Their intelligence is suddenly rationed the moment they're confronted with questions about Muhoozi's conduct. When it benefits them, it's official. When it threatens others, it's comedy. We’re a very sad excuse for a country.

A young man named Simon Kato says he in 2015 lent a woman Shs4.8m. When he later asked her to repay it, she invited him to her house to collect the money. When he arrived, she asked him to wait while she went to fetch it from her bedroom. She returned with her clothes torn, her breasts exposed, and raised an alarm, screaming that he had tried to kill her. Simon was arrested, charged with attempted murder, and remanded. Witnesses were staged against him. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He served 10 years and 6 months in Nakasongola Prison. When he was finally released, he found that both his parents had died, his family’s former home in Lubigi had been demolished by NEMA, and the woman who had falsely accused him had sold her property and disappeared. Uganda is a deeply wicked society, from ordinary individuals to institutions. How do people live with themselves after this kind of cruelty? How do they sleep at night?

This from the President is extremely dangerous and deeply worrying. He has not only issued a no bail directive for Opposition politicians but also effectively given the military license to abduct and hold people incommunicado, as long as they’re at some point paraded in courts.
