As expected, Judge Emmanuel Baguma has not seen any sense in what Dr Besigye has presented to court today. He has decided to push through with his kangaroo court trial. He has ignored Dr Besigye’s plea to resolve his legal representation issues in an application he filed and instead, ordered for State sponsored lawyers to be availed to Besigye.

Dr Besigye: They’re for us, we haven’t received them because we need facilities to do so! We make presentations to court and we’re totally ignored and matters continue as if we did not say anything. This from the President is extremely dangerous and deeply worrying. He has not only issued a no bail directive for Opposition politicians but also effectively given the military license to abduct and hold people incommunicado, as long as they’re at some point paraded in courts.

Erias Lukwago has been further remanded until July 16, 2026, even after presenting evidence that his life is in danger if he does not receive the specialized medical attention recommended by Mulago National Referral Hospital. The referral letter was signed by Dr Rosemary Byanyima, the executive director. Apparently, the presiding Chief Magistrate is indisposed until July 16.

Dr Besigye: The trial was supposed to begin on June 11, 2026. The letter from Prison authorities granting us access to facilities to enable us access full disclosures is dated June 29, 2026. We were expected here on June 11 to face witnesses before we access disclosures.
