This is my reality each day. My mom died young. She had so much more life to live. She fought. Since 2016, she wrestled with an aggressive and, at times, seemingly impossible disease. Her samples and tests were sometimes sent overseas for further evaluation to help guide her treatment plan. She reacted aggressively to radiation. It burned her, leaving her skin badly charred. Chemotherapy debilitated her. Yet somehow, through all of it, she still had a fighting spirit. She kept fighting. And I watched. Till her dying day, she kept saying, “Ke tlo fola.” I will get better. I will heal. Those words have stayed with me.

For years I struggled with hyperpigmentation, oily and acne prone skin, and I rarely felt confident leaving the house without makeup.
