I was able to access the detention centre where 37 young men died in NSCDC custody. The room was tiny, with barely any ventilation, and I could smell the bodies of those who had died. A survivor told me how they drank their own urine and sweat just to survive, and how officials ignored their cries for help. The government says investigations are ongoing to establish what happened.

I was live on BBC World Service TV, standing right in front of one of the mining sites where the young men who later died in NSCDC detention were arrested. I brought updates from the scene and reported on the situation on the ground as events unfolded.

In an interview I did with NNPP’s Leader, Sen Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, he described Governor Abba’s defection to the APC as a major betrayal that deeply hurt him. He also stated that ‘the moment Ganduje raised Abba’s hand, he lost his coming election.’

Behind the Scenes 🎥 In my entire career as a journalist, this has been the most intense deployment I’ve ever done. So many questions remain unanswered and more than 250 students are still in captivity.

BREAKING: Niger State police have told me they cannot verify the reported escape of 50 children announced late Sunday by the Christian Association of Nigeria and the government. Police say the only students confirmed to be safe are those who escaped on the night of the attack.

I have been reporting on the mass abduction in Kaduna’s Kurmin Wali village where 177 people were taken. While there, I walked the same route used by the bandits and spoke directly to survivors who escaped to hear their harrowing experiences.

My latest report on a worrying trend of parents using bleaching creams on their children in Nigeria was aired today on BBC World Service TV. I went to Kano state for this report and witnessed how these harmful creams are being made using raw chemicals in the markets.
