Michigan State journalism student Elliott Hammon still has the video Tom Izzo sent him before his brain tumor surgery four and a half years ago. Hammon brought it up during Izzo’s press conference and asked how it impacts him knowing he means so much to people. Izzo’s full response: “It’s better than winning.” “What people think of you, how you can inspire people. I mean, that’s why I’m here. Some people jump around and go to different jobs. I want to be a part of the fabric of this place, and I want to be a guy that people can come to. “If that tape, or that video, or phone call helped you… (pounds chest) that’s awesome.” 🎥 SpartanMag.com

Michigan State psychiatrist Lionel Rosen changed Nick Saban’s career 🔥 Before facing No. 1 Ohio State in 1998, Saban didn’t even think the Spartans had a chance. He called Rosen for advice, and the message was simple: take it play by play, ignore the scoreboard, and focus on the next six seconds. Six seconds of hell. Michigan State pulled off the upset, winning 28-24 in one of the most memorable moments in program history. And here’s the crazy part: Lionel Rosen is still working at Michigan State today. 👀 Saban’s coaching record since the win: 259-49. 🐐

Tom Izzo is questioning Michigan’s Elected Board System. “Michigan’s having problems, too. Some of this is the way our boards are selected. They are elected, not selected. We’re one of only four states in the whole country that are that way. There’s a reason. It’s probably not working well.” 🎥 WOOD TV8

Tom Izzo spoke more on Jeremy Fears today. “I had a come to Jesus meeting with him again and I think he understands what’s going on.” “The way I look at is he’s a 3.1 student, he’s had no injuries, he’s done absolutely zero off the court. Never had a problem in the classroom, never had a problem with drugs and alcohol.” “If you think he was trying to hurt somebody, he wouldn’t be here.” 🎥 SpartanMag.com

“I’ve been without a lot of people, you know what, still standing, still winning!” Izzo says Fitzgerald and Nightingale were the first to call him after the news of the president’s departure a few weeks ago. Their words were “let’s go!” “It’ll be a cold day in hell before I don’t think this is still one of the great universities in the country.” 🎥 SpartanMag.com

Tre Holloman said Coach Izzo was “so welcoming” in allowing him to return to Michigan State and work out over the past few days. When asked if, looking back, he would do anything differently, Holloman kept it short: “No comment.” Holloman also didn’t rule out a return to MSU if he were granted a fifth year of eligibility. “If they have good plans, if they welcome me back, I wouldn’t mind coming back.” (🎥 News 10 Lansing)

Tom Izzo was asked by Chris Solari of Jeremy Fears’ technical foul and people labeling him as “dirty.” “Immaturity. If he plays that way he deserves it and he ain’t gonna play that way if I bench him the next game.” “I’ve had it with that. That’s not what I teach. That’s not what I coach.” 🎥 WILX News 10
