In Somalia, it’s unfortunately common to slaughter sick livestock even when antibiotics may still be in their system—despite withdrawal periods that can last up to four weeks. Eating meat that contains drug residues can contribute to antimicrobial resistance, making common bacterial infections in humans harder to treat. It also means people may be exposed to antibiotics they were never prescribed. At @idoshilin we take our customers wellbeing seriously. We will only offer healthy sheeps for slaughter.

Bananas from Kenya are now reaching Mogadishu markets by sea. These imports face no isbaaro, no extortion by government forces, and no import taxes. As a result, it has become much easier and more profitable for Kenyan banana farmers to supply Mogadishu than for local Somali farmers in Janaale or Muulo-Mareer to sell their own produce there. I applaud the entrepreneurs who recognized this opportunity and filled the gap. I also “thank” the Somali government their selfless for creating a market for Kenyan farmers in Somalia while their local farmers cannot access that same market because of isbaaro extortion.

We’ve lost that market to Ethiopian banana growers with smooth roads & ZERO isbaaro easy access cross border. Our route? 25+ isbaaro checkpoints causing delays, extortion, spoilage. So glad we have neighbors who feed us when we fail to grasp how isbaaro fuel our food insecurity.

Yesterday, I drove from the farm to Mogadishu. I counted 17 Isbaaro roadblocks from Lambar 50 to Mogadishu set up by government forces. At each checkpoint, the soldiers demanded extortion money, and they allowed transport vehicles carrying farm produce to pass only after payment. The more army bases on the road is resulting more isbaaro roadblocks.

When HSM took office in 2022, I was very optimistic that by 2025, Somalia would eliminate the isbaaro checkpoints and the government would have full control over the southern part of the country. by that prediction, we reinvested in our farm by adding more fields and constructing additional water wells, believing that by 2025 Somalia would be prepared to end food insecurity. However, it seems we are still at square one and now all our investments is gonna result isbaaro guys to get more money from us.
