“I gave approval for the appointment of 40 doctors, we only got 11” - “ There is no patriotism on the part of the doctors on their country…..” - “before women doctors don’t travel abroad, but now they do, and its one of the most unfortunate things that is happening to us” - Gov. Dikko Radda. Your excellency sir Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D. CON. i believe it is unfair to think of doctors in Nigeria as unpatriotic when they continue to share their pains and realities informing their decisions to leave the country when better opportunities come their way. NARD has been on strike for the past 12 days now with 19 Demands , all of which borders around their wellbeing. The root causes for our brain drain is beyond monetary value sir and we all know it. Young doctors are loosing their lives, female doctors having miscarriages, their little families breaking apart. This is an attack on their livelihood and their simple right to live. Everyday they walk into a hospital, they are met with every reason why they should leave to work elsewhere. Unlike other professions, doctors swore an oath holding on to their holy books, to DO NO HARM. How do you do no harm when you can’t even save yourself from the shackles of the broken system. Respectfully sir. We should all focus on implementing lasting policies that would go a long way in solving our healthcare system challenges. We understand that we are not the USA nor the UK, but we must tailor our solutions to fit into our challenges. One way to go is by acting on the NARD 19 DEMANDS. Thank you. We changed the course of history in Nigeria and we won. For the first time ever in Nigeria, doctors have a regulated working hours. This historic victory was not achieved alone. It took a village of courageous leaders, dedicated colleagues, and thousands of everyday citizens who believed that those who care for our lives deserve to have theirs protected too. From the bottom of my heart, I extend my deepest gratitude to Senator Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yaradua for his unwavering leadership in giving our petition a voice on the floor of the Nigerian Senate when doors were closed. I am profoundly thankful to the Honorable Minister of Health Muhammad Ali Pate and the Minister of State for Health Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako listening to our cries, recognizing the urgency of reform, and approving the first-ever National Policy on Work Hour Regulation. To the leadership of NARD and Nigerian Medical Association , our NARD President Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman for making this policy your top priority and fighting for us at every negotiation table; the NMA President Dr Bala Audu , VP Dr. Olowojebutu Benjamin Oluwatosin and past NARD Presidents Dr Dele Abdullahi and Dr. Osundare, thank you for building the foundation and keeping the flame alive. Heart broken by the news of Dr Saghir Mahmoud’s Death.💔 He collapsed barely a month after his wedding and has been battling till he finally gave up today. Another one Gone, just like that. The so called “Noble profession” that takes care of everyone unless the caregivers. The inhumane practices of long working hours must be reviewed. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria we cannot take it anymore. NARD must look into the issue of Dr Duja who was given an Extra call because he went home to change and arrived late at work after he had done a 48 HOURS CALL.💔 EXTRA CALL is sheer wickedness and you should be ashamed if you have given it before. Dear Fatima Ma, With the yearly MASSIVE FAILURE in Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria license exams costing 150k + 1.2 Million naira, persistent absence of syllabus for preparation and no passmark nor feedback, i think it is time to be accountable and re-evaluate the council’s standards for the exam. The council has barely seen a pass rate above 40% in the last 7 years. One would think that the council would be concerned and sort reasons for why this has been happening. There is no exam that affirms to be fair, without syllabus. A candidate should also be able to see how he/she performed alongside their results. These are the ethics that most institutions abide by, which makes a resilient system that functions without doubts. The council should also be able to review its confidentiality policies. In this age, any information about a candidate is vital and must be safeguarded. The council should create a better system where results are privately communicated to the candidates. Lastly, we must always remember that these doctors cannot practice or get any professional job without this license, no matter how long it takes them to pass the exam. This is why we must support them in every way and ensure that they pass, fairly and swiftly. Our country Nigeria, needs all the doctors available, and it certainly needs them too. A sad day again😔. Another Nigerian Dr Dead after 72hrs Call, despite complaints of being sick which was ignored and still made to work. 💔 How many more death to prove that Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria needs to Regulate Dr’s working hours??😭 Today, we mourn the death of a promising young doctor, Dr Femi. Loved by family and friends, failed by his home country Nigeria 💔. He was also said to have passed his PLAB exams and awaiting a job opportunity in the UK, until this sad event. This is the sad situation of many Nigerian doctors, most of whom are alive but dying silently from overwork. We call on Muhammad Ali Pate , Fatima to please put an end to these deaths. My Suicide Note: i am sorry i let you all down. But don’t judge me before listening to my story 😭💔. Here it is in 4mins….. We have made a significant progress in our call for the regulation of doctors working hours in Nigeria. We have called for what is right, and God is helping us get it. How can a doctor be arrested while on a medical outreach? Another group of doctors are asked to pay 400k induction fee after they were initially notified to pay only 250k. Yet we blame them when they leave to work abroad and call them unpatriotic. Dear Nyesom Ezenwo Wike sir, Medical Consultants in National Hospital Abuja are getting sacked with no explanation. This is sad. We blame them when they leave the country, but treat them wrongly when they stay💔. It is sad that we have to continue calling out and pleading for the very people who take care of our health like this. Doctors in National hospital Abuja are being casualised as locum staff when they can actually be employed as permanent staff. Why do we complain of inadequate doctors when we don’t seem to value them. 💔 We call on to the relevant authorities to please intervene and reinstate those consultants affected. The policy on health workforce migration has outlined steps to combat japa syndrome, and sacking doctors is definitely not helping it, and is not in line with Bola Ahmed Tinubu renewed hope agenda on health. We hope you do. Let it be clear that the demands by NARD all bordering around their welfare was declared and continuously ignored by the government for 38 days before the strike action was taken. This was done publicly calling the attention of the government and Nigerians to the issues, however for 38 days it was ignored. Now that they have no other choice but to embark on the strike to push for what is rightfully theirs, they are tagged MILLITANTS? This is wrong and no Nigerian doctor deserves this. We call on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore our dignity. Let the Hon. Minister Apologise🙏🏻. These utterances would break the confidence of every Nigerian doctor in the healthcare system.
