01/24/26 12 PM (CT) : We’re seeing more incidents on the roadways as the winter storm moves through the state. Our HELP trucks are working to assist drivers and keep traffic flowing. As we see more slides and spin-outs, we again encourage you to stay off the roads if you can. The video shows a HELP truck assisting a driver on I-240 in Memphis on Saturday morning. We’re also appreciative of the assistance of the Tenn. National Guard with this incident.

1/10 10AM (CT) Update: R2 (Chattanooga/Cumberland Plateau) Snow is falling across the area. Here's a look at I-24 EB near Monteagle. Crews are plowing I-24, but drivers should use extreme caution due to the curvy/steep nature of the road. It's just better if you stay off the roads. for the latest information.

Earlier today, TDOT HELP operator Chester Hembree responded to a highway distress call on I-40 EB in Knox County. As he approached the vehicle, he heard over the radio it was a woman in labor. He was the first responder on the scene. The woman had just delivered the baby as he walked up to the vehicle. He asked her if the baby had cried and she said no. Hembree helped clear the baby's airway and got the child to cry and breath regularly. KPD and EMTs arrived soon after and transported mom and baby to the hospital. Both were in stable condition. Launched in 1999 and expanded this year to serve rural interstates, the TDOT HELP and Rural Service Patrol programs patrol Tennessee's interstates responding to distressed motorists.

6/19/25 12:30 pm ET/ 11:30 am CT Update: While this closure is in the same area of I-40 damaged during Hurricane Helene, the damage *is not* as extensive. Crews are working to clean large amounts of mud and debris from the roadway, but those living in the area do have access to alternative routes. Our survey team is utilizing drones to get an accurate picture of the area and assess damages. Right now, we expect this stretch of I-40 to be closed for at least two weeks. Commercial and thru traffic should use I-81 to I-26 or I-81 to I-77 detour routes. This is the same route utilized during the I-40 closure for Hurricane Helene.

Take a look at the incredible before and after of the SR 107 bridge over the Nolichucky River. A Google image shows the bridge before Helene, while videos taken by TDOT employees show the aftermath. We know there is a long recovery road ahead, but TDOT is committed to rebuilding East Tennessee. #easttn #helene #recovery #nolichuckyriver
