This is the closest any Australian journalist has gotten to the heart of Gaza since 2023. "The brief glimpse we got of Gaza, out of the window and out of the back of this plane's hold is really difficult to describe and we HAVE TO describe it to you, rather than show you. Because the Israeli authorities do NOT want any media on these Jordanian flights to bring you images of the destruction on the ground. The Jordanians, they want to show this to the world, but they also do not want to jeopardise any future aid missions. What we saw is hard to put into words. A desolate landscape, the skeletons of buildings jutting up into the air and everything just cloaked in this thick blanket of grey and beige dust. Chris Minns confirms the crowd was larger than 100,000 as I reported yesterday. "Firstly it was a massive crowd, over a 100,000 people and if the weather wasn't appalling I think it would've even been bigger than that, maybe even double the size. There's no doubt it was massive community demonstration huge from the perspective of Sydney, a lot of people were concerned about the situation in #Gaza and had incredible empathy and concern about Palestinian children in particular but the entire situation. I accept that there's a huge ground swell in relation to that, that people came and were concerned about it. Many people that had never been to a demonstration before turned up on Sunday."
