To gain access to places like this, I often have to build trust quickly. We did that by sitting down for tea and allowing the owner to explain his operation and why he runs it. Over the course of half an hour, we learned about the scale of the business, the methods of slaughter, and something I didn’t expect: the government had tried to shut him down before. Multiple times. So how was he still operating? According to the owner, he simply ignored the requests. This industry exists in a legal grey area. While dog and cat meat itself is not broadly prohibited, many operations rely on illegal practices to remain profitable, including the theft of pets for slaughter—something this particular slaughterhouse was implicated in. Although I was never able to determine the exact violation authorities cited, the owner made one thing clear: he had no intention of shutting down. Business was booming. As long as this industry remains profitable, operations like these will continue to exist, and many will have little hesitation engaging in illegal activities, such as pet theft, if it increases their profits. Fortunately, we were able to save him that day along with the other dogs on board. Courageous Zach later found a loving home in the USA. Though small in size, he is a mighty pup who confidently bosses everyone around. A caring person took them into her house. The two dogs who fled are being sought. Since August, several dogs have been found here with their eyes dug out. These poor dogs are wandering aimlessly in the town. This has been reported to the Macheng public security bureau. Our support against the heinous Cat Meat Trade China December 17th, 2024, Shanghai Cat Car was intercepted The cat car was successfully intercepted and is now being taken over by Shanghai Oasis. The cats are on their way to the base. It's rescuer Chris who rescued these cats! The cats' specific number and physical condition are not yet known. There are many cats. The Shanghai Cat Car is in urgent need of volunteers at the rescue base. Also, the follow-up resettlement of stolen pets requires a large number of volunteers to support and help at the base.
