Our second stop on Luttig Street was to inspect shops and check compliance with the City’s by-laws. During the inspection: - Building Control issued a 7-day notice for an illegal building structure. - TMPD issued a R500 fine for trading without a Certificate of Acceptability. - Municipal Health issued a R500 notice for handling food without the required Certificate of Acceptability. We’ve disconnected electricity at a reservoir owned by Johannesburg Water, in Centurion. The City of Tshwane is owed over R62 million by the entity. The original bill stood at 69,4 million, but only R7 million was paid after a final notice was issued. Disconnection actions are the last measure used by the municipality to recover revenue owed. We continue to plead with customers to honour their municipal bills. Without revenue, we are unable to deliver services to residents of Tshwane. #TshwaneYaTima City of Tshwane

We are in the Pretoria CBD for a special by-law enforcement operation. We’ve closed down dozens of salons that are operating inside a well known building located on Madiba Street. None of the salons, operating inside this building, are registered or in possession of trading licenses issued by the City of Tshwane. In addition, the Tshwane Metro Police checked the documentation of foreign nationals who operate the salons. To run a business in Tshwane, you must be issued with a trading license. During our next stop, the foreign nationals operating a spaza shop attempted to evade inspection by quickly closing the doors and dumping the cigarettes they were selling into rubbish bins. While conducting the inspection, we discovered one of the individuals hiding in the ceiling. Both individuals were arrested by TMPD after it was confirmed that they were in the country illegally. I spoke to Xoli Mngambi to correct the inaccuracies regarding Tshwane’s expenditure on water tanker services. While the former mayor of Tshwane continues to manipulate public opinion, the facts remain clear: The figure of R777 million is a lie. As records show, spending by the previous administration was actually higher than that of the current administration. We’ve spent the past year investing in internal city-owned water tankers that are driven by our own staff. We’ve done this with a commitment to reduce spending on external contracts when emergency water delivery is required.

We have shutdown Ipi ntombi - a popular bar and brothel in the Pretoria CBD that’s managed by Chinese nationals. This establishment has long violated our laws. Today, we have brought in reinforcements to ensure that the full might of the law deals decisively with the owners of the property. City of Tshwane

This afternoon, we joined the City’s By-Law Enforcement team for an operation in the streets surrounding Bosman Station in the Pretoria CBD. We moved traders who were obstructing walkways, in addition to operating without the required trading permits. Some traders were compliant. We also inspected spaza shops in the area to ensure compliance with the City’s by-laws and applicable health and safety requirements. We will continue to enforce by-laws to keep the CBD clean, safe and accessible for residents and visitors. City of Tshwane

We’ve arrested 4 Chinese nationals and about 30 young people who work at this sports bar in the CBD. They all do not have documentation to be in South Africa. What’s also concerning is that a brothel is flourishing well on Bloed Street at the benefit of unlawful people. We are determined to deal with lawlessness in Tshwane. City of Tshwane

In December, we disconnected electricity at Thami Ndlala Mall and Hotel Apartments. They owed the city over R600,000. We were back today because they illegally reconnected without settlement of the account. In addition, this property owes over R1 million for water. City of Tshwane

During our By-law Enforcement operation on Bosman Street, we met an incredible business owner of Freedom Supermarket who proudly showed us all his compliance certificates and licences. He shared that many of his employees have been working there for almost 30 years. This is exactly what we want, businesses that comply with the law, create jobs and thrive. I was truly touched by his support for the vision we are building for Tshwane. ❤️

We discovered a mortuary operating in the same property as a spaza shop in Enkangala. The mortuary had continued operating despite a previous prohibition order. We have once again issued a prohibition notice and shutdown the business. The spaza shop was also closed. City of Tshwane
