🦐 Stegopontonia commensalis by 燕子 (Hainan, China) This fascinating marine shrimp is also known as the Commensal Urchin Shrimp or Whitestripe Urchin Shrimp. Unlike many “classic” shrimp, it has an extremely long, slender body that helps it move between the spines of sea urchins. Its life is closely tied to sea urchins, especially long-spined species. The shrimp uses the spines as protection from predators, while its slender body shape and bright longitudinal stripes help it blend in almost perfectly. At first glance, it can look more like a tiny purple splinter than a shrimp.

CALLIGRAPHA BEETLES The genus Calligrapha, belonging to the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae), is famous for the striking patterns on its wings that resemble ink blots or calligraphy. These small beetles, measuring 9 to 12 millimeters long, come in colors ranging from black and white to red and have shapes that make them easily distinguishable. They are herbivorous in both their larval and adult stages, and many species display a high level of specialization: they depend almost exclusively on a single plant species to survive—just like Calligrapha philadelphica, which is closely associated with the dogwood tree. Their eye-catching appearance and close relationships with specific plant species make these beetles a fascinating example of adaptation and diversity in the natural world.

This is a glass frog, an amphibian from Central and South America known for its transparent skin. The photo shows the underside of the frog, allowing you to directly view its internal organs. The green spheres at the bottom are eggs, and the red structure in the middle is the heart. Transparent glass frogs can pack their red blood cells into their liver to make their skin even more see-through while they sleep.
