Everyone wants Caleb Williams to be obsessed with football 24/7. But the real ones know.. Stepping away can make you better. When your whole identity is the game, you burn out. When you build a life outside of it, you stay sharp. That’s what I did. I locked in, handled business on the field… Then I spent the rest of my time in WB meetings, with Andreessen Horowitz (CLF),Marcy Venture Partners (MVP) building a development company. That’s how I played over a decade. That’s how I am building generational wealth. Let the young man grow, on and off the field!

I was a cornerstone of the Detroit Lions, just like Stafford, just like Calvin, but the pay never matched the weight I carried. I wasn’t just a defensive tackle. I was the guy offenses game-planned for. I was the one of the guys setting the tone in the locker room and on the field. And while quarterbacks get the big checks, I was the one putting my body on the line every play, chasing down QBs. They built the offense around him, They built the identity of the defense around the Dline and me! You don’t talk about the Lions of that era without mentioning Calvin Johnson or Matthew Stafford, myself and our Dline! So yeah… I believed I should’ve been paid like them, Because impact isn’t just about stats, it’s about presence, influence, folks wanting to play with you and for you ! Lesson… If you’re carrying the load, on the field or in business, don’t be afraid to ask for what you’re worth. Because being valuable and being valued are two different things!!!!

I’m not giving my kids a trust fund. I’m giving them trust in themselves. Because money can disappear. But the ability to think, build, and solve problems lasts forever. Every project we do together teaches them how to take responsibility, how to fail, and how to figure it out. What hard work looks like. And the feeling of gratification when you patiently work at something until it becomes a masterpiece. To me, generational wealth isn’t just handing down a trust fund… It’s the trust you build in your kids that they can create, lead, and repeat success without you. To me… That’s a much better thing to inherit! Something I unknowingly learned watching my mother and father growing up..

Most people think every NFL player is living large with million dollar contracts. That’s just not true. A huge percentage of guys aren’t even on the 53-man roster consistently. They’re bouncing between practice squads, reserve contracts, or getting cut week to week. And even the ones on a team? Not all of them have guaranteed money. They might get a $700K salary that looks great on paper—but that’s before taxes, agent fees, union dues… Now subtract living expenses in high-cost cities, offseason training, nutrition, massages, physical therapy, personal chefs, and yeah… league fines.
