Idi Amin threatens military action against the racist regimes of SA and Rhodesia (Zim) to help bring independence. The late Ugandan Prez is speaking at the Organisation of African Unity in 1975 and lobbied for a Pan-African continental army to overthrow the white-minority governments. As chairman of the OAU at the time, Amin called for African nations to each contribute 1000 soldiers. However, his efforts failed partly because some African nations saw it as a threat to their sovereignty. Leaders also boycotted Amin’s OAU events over concerns of severe human rights abuses in Uganda. #IdiAmin #SouthAfrica #Ugandanews #AfricanHistory #Liberation #PanAfricanism #History #Rhodesia #Namibia #Africanews

Why can Europeans move across Africa more freely than Africans? Over 90% of us need a visa to visit another African country, and it’s killing the continent’s development. That’s the message from Wamkele Mene, the head of the massive African Continental Free Trade Area. But we’re still a long way off from visa-free travel. So far, only four countries (Rwanda, Niger, Mali, and São Tomé and Príncipe) have ratified the AU Protocol on Free Movement of Persons. And major economies like Nigeria and SA are holding back over fears of unregulated migration. So, should we tear down border barriers? #AfCFTA #AfricanUnion #Immigration #PanAfricanism #AfricanYouth #AfricaNews

This young voice demands urgent reforms to stop big business plundering SA's resources. Economist Sthandiwe Msomi quotes US historian Michael Parenti, who famously said the Third World isn't underdeveloped, it's overexploited. And SA is no different, particularly in the mining industry. While it boasts over 80% of the world's manganese and platinum group metals, most value-added processing happens abroad, according to the Financial Mail. In fact, SA’s raw material exports are worth around $34B annually. So, you can imagine the potential revenue being lost. Africa, meanwhile, has 30% of the world’s critical minerals but processes less than 12%. #SouthAfrica #Africa #Economics #PanAfricanism #Reform #Mining #AfricanEconomy #EconomicJustice #Resources #Policy #Wealth #SocialJustice #Freedom

Here's how debunked claims of White g*n*cide in South Africa went global. Political commentator Dan Corder argues Afrikaner activists like Ernst Roets cleverly pushed white victimhood ideas, which were then exaggerated by “lunatics” on social media. Washington then amplified them to distract from domestic controversies and turned SA into a "punching bag". Trump famously ambushed Ramaphosa in the Oval Office, alleging SA land reforms were r*cist and offered white farmers asylum. Other SA officials targeted included ex-ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, who was expelled from the US after claiming Trump used white victimhood as a “dog whistle". #TrevorNoah #Politics #SouthAfrica #ElonMusk #Trump

South Africa is about to learn an expensive lesson for its anti-immigration attitude, according to Pan-African scholar P.L.O. Lumumba. He predicts growing tensions will have serious economic consequences, particularly for the country's tourism, higher education and international reputation. Lumumba reckons hostility towards fellow Africans is not only morally wrong but also economically self-destructive. He warns that if Africans increasingly feel unwelcome in South Africa, they will simply take their tourism spending, university enrolments and business investments elsewhere. #Lumumba #Politics #SApolitics #migrants #tourism #PanAfricanism #AfricaWakeUp #AfricaRise #Travel #Immigration

Black people targeting Black migrants in SA are like “crabs in a barrel” scrambling for white men's crumbs. Author Marquett Burton lashes out at the illegal-migrant protests sweeping the country, calling them hate crimes against easy targets. He believes what’s happening ignores deeper systems that still shape SA’s economy, which belongs to a white minority. The clip’s gone viral, with nearly 20K comments. A South African warns Ronald Lamola the "suffering" public feels gaslighted and deluded by democracy. But although the minister admits the system is "backsliding", he insists there’s no viable alternative. His comments come as leaders of marches against illegal foreigners demand a change of government. The best option, says Lamola, is the ongoing National Dialogue, a citizen-led initiative launched to address pressing socio-economic challenges. SA is the world's most unequal country where 10% of the population owns 90% of the wealth. #SouthAfrica #Democracy #Africa #Politics #Lamola

South African music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka slams migration double standards. She was denied entry to Uganda in 2019 for having the wrong visa for a concert in Kampala. But the singer can’t understand why so many undocumented foreigners are able to enter her country. This week, over 4,000 people were caught re-entering SA illegally, with close to 10,000 deported. It’s a highly contentious issue, with demos against illegal migrants sweeping parts of SA for the last four months, sparking a backlash from other African nations and the AU. #ChakaChaka #SouthAfrica #Africa #Immigration #Migrants

Big retailers are the real winners from SA’s anti-migrant protests, says lawyer Brian Kagoro. Demos have closed down foreign-owned small spaza shops in townships amid claims they’re taking local jobs. But Kagoro predicts large chains, like Shoprite, will pick up the market share and profit. He also points out many Zimbabweans cross the border to buy South African goods but reckons that could be slashed if SA businesses set up in Zimbabwe and offer services there instead. Unacceptable! South African broadcaster, Faith Mangope, said it out loud when others whispered. Months of public pressure exposed a department rotting from the inside, and on 14 May 2026, Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe was sacked. This is not just a South African story. Across this continent, public money meant for the poorest is swallowed by the powerful. The names change. The pattern does not. Africa needs more courageous voices. Faith Mangope used hers. Thambo Mbeki reveals Europe blocked an African country from partnering with South Africa. Without naming names, he shares a remarkable story from his time as SA president. An African government had asked for his help to develop a project inspired by Cape Town’s Waterfront. But the deal was torpedoed by a European nation which wanted the contract instead. Mbeki didn't elaborate on why it happened, but many argue Western leverage over Africa stems from the vast sums of foreign aid and investment the continent receives. #SouthAfrica #Africa #PanAfricanism #Politics #CurrentAffairs #Europe #News #Trending #History #Infrastructure #Mbeki

This ex-government chief has had it with “lazy” South Africans. He accuses them of failing to debate key issues impacting the country, while politicians simply chase votes. As SA’s statistician general, Dr Pali Lehohla spent years waving red flags with his census data, exposing the country's rot right down to the grassroots. But he says his warnings fell on deaf ears. The result is a failing country, where "raw sewage" is "all over the place" and democracy is almost dead. Agree? #SouthAfrica #Africa #Democracy #Politics #Panafricanism

South Africans will soon be the ones moving to Zimbabwe for jobs. Zimbabwe's former ambassador to China, Christopher Mutsvangwa, makes the bold prediction. And he reckons his country’s rapid economic growth will reverse traditional migration flows between the nations within two years. He also claims many white Zimbabweans who left the country decades ago are returning, describing it as a show of confidence in the nation's economic future. Its GDP grew over 7% last year and is expected to grow up to 5% in 2026. #Zimbabwe #Mugabe #SouthAfrica #Zimbabweans #Migrants #Jobs #Africa #Economy #Growth #ZanuPF #Mutsvangwa

African leaders used to keep each other in line, but SA’s former president Mbeki doubts they can now. He remembers when SADC got together to stop Zambia’s Frederick Chiluba running for an unconstitutional third term. Botwana’s Festus Mogae called him on their behalf, and Chiluba backed down. Mbeki fears this level of Pan-Africanism is disappearing fast and is one of our “big problems". #Mbeki #SADC #Democracy #PanAfricanism #AfricanLeadership #Governance #AfricanUnity #Politics #Governance #Leadership

South Africa’s white-owned banks stand to profit as foreigners flee the country and Black landlords feel the pain. Already 50,000 have left since protests against undocumented migrants flared up. Pan-Africanist Joshua Maponga warns it means fewer tenants paying rent, more landlords defaulting on mortgages and soaring foreclosures. Many of the affected rental properties are in the townships and owned by Black people. It's estimated foreigners make up 15% of tenants in the formal rental property market, according to research by credit bureaus. Other sectors impacted include the taxi industry and universities. #JoshuaMaponga #SouthAfrica #Migrants #Panafricanism #immigration #Economy #Africa #Business #Politics #Africanews

African students silence a white South African on apartheid in this 1950s debate. He claims whites are the backbone of SA’s economy and defends racial segregation. But he’s lost for words when asked why that segregation doesn’t extend to dividing South Africa into two nations – one for whites, the other for Black people. The debate, called "The Roots of Prejudice", was hosted by the New York Herald Tribune World Youth Forum. It brought high school children from different countries to the US to live with American families and discuss global affairs. #SouthAfrica #Africa #Ghana #Ethiopia #Cotedivoire #PanAfricanism #History #Decolonize #Land #Unity #Politics #Race
