Thank you billie eilish for expertly demonstrating the art of side eye with the help of “Portrait of a Lady” and a few other famous works 👀

John Singer Sargent quit portrait painting at the peak of his success. Tired of painting for wealthy clients, he walked away in his 50s to travel the world and paint the landscapes he loved. Quitting gave him the freedom to do his best work.

In case you need some flowers today 🫲

Did you know that the average person spends 7 seconds looking at a painting? Do you think that’s long enough? 🤔

Exciting news! We have just won *four* Webby Awards, including one for this animation of an Anne Vallayer-Coster that was missing for centuries. A huge congratulations to our social media and production studio teams! The Webby Awards

John Singer Sargent’s landscapes are underrated. 👀

Auguste Renoir painted this stunning view of Paris in 1872—a bold break from tradition.

This breathtaking view of Paris was painted by Auguste Renoir in 1872. And it represents a pivotal moment in art history.

You deserve some flowers today, especially on the first day of spring 🫱

When this painting was revealed in 1778, it shocked the British public.

Transforming a face into a work of art! 💞 🖼 Robert Seldon Duncanson, “Still Life with Fruit and Nuts,” 1848, oil on board, 12 x 16 in., Gift of Ann and Mark Kington/The Kington Foundation and the Avalon Fund

A work of art in our collection, Degas’s original “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen,” was attacked with paint today. It was protected in a case and we are evaluating it now. We unequivocally denounce this behavior and will share information as it emerges. Message from our director:

You deserve flowers today. So we’re whisking you away to Claude Monet’s garden. 🌻

Just in case you need some flowers today 🫱

Our curators are lowkey rizzlers. So they teamed up with our intern to make this video.

If you didn’t have to worry about money or approval, how would you spend your time? American painter John Singer Sargent found his answer in his 50s.

This transformation is actually unreal 😭 Artist Jo Steel reimagined Rembrandt by literally becoming him, turning into the artist’s self-portrait through makeup, costume design, and hand-painted sets. #OpenCall

At first glance, this painting by Mary Cassatt just looks a sweet moment between a mother and child. But look closer...

This isn’t just a painting—it’s a snapshot of love caught in the wind. Monet’s "Woman with a Parasol" (1875) shows his wife Camille and son Jean on a breezy day, a moment so alive, he painted it fast to hold on forever.

We’re sorry but last night Henriette and Christine escaped from their paintings to exchange holiday presents in the Rotunda. After an extensive search, they were found this afternoon practicing their pliés near the “Little Dancer.” Crisis averted. Happy Holidays.
