There were two marches at Cable Street today. One was made up of Jews, many of them descendants of the original people who fought fascists in Cable Street 90 years ago, and our allies. The other one was made up of people who are the new Jew haters. Even as they entered the park they were screaming ‘Zionism is fascism’. This group had been rowing as an anti Zionist Jew among them asked them not to attack Jews from the first march. So they started chanting ‘Zionism is fascism’. As I tried to film them they turned on me. They said I had to stop filming and I explained I was a journalist and free to film them. They looked at my Star of David and said, ‘You aren’t a journalist, you are a Zionist.’ When I explained I was both a journalist and a Zionist they turned on me. Screamed ‘Zionism is racism’. They surrounded me with their tarpaulin which said - the irony - ‘no Pasaran’ and they tried to shove me away. One man tried to body push me away with his chest. A steward with a ‘stand up to racism’ high vis jacket poked me with her placard. When I remonstrated with her she told me, ‘if I wanted to hurt you, you wouldn’t get out of here alive.’ People there kept telling me I had to leave. An event which was meant to be about a famous fight against antisemitism became a hostile place for Jews. The keffiyeh-wearing idealogues are hateful Jew haters.

For now a third year in a row, graduation ceremonies at The University of Edinburgh are being hijacked by ‘pro Palestinians’. You have to wonder what they are being taught. One parent wrote to me: ‘It was an absolutely disgusting disgrace. ‘Student after student got up to get their degree in a keffiyah and then unfurled a piece of cloth with the sort of shit you would expect from braindead privileged wokesters who have been spoonfed Jew hate. ‘And then at the end just after the student speech all the morons got up and were allowed to protest and march out of the hall waving their pieces of benighted cloth covered in blood libels. ‘I am beyond incandescent at what I was made to sit through. There are some people who think that if Jews hide, make ourselves smaller, perhaps there will be less antisemitism. Perhaps if we don’t fight back, don’t speak up, stop moaning, make ourselves smaller, that will work…even though it never has before. So I’m pleased people fought back in Edgware (a special place where I spent the first 10 years of my life and where I was at a school reunion today). I’m pleased the antisemites were outnumbered in the battle of Edgware, that they were forced to retreat even as they vowed revenge and ‘Zionists we will be back!’ This was a victory but there is no sense of joy. They have made life so uncomfortable here that many are making plans to move to Israel, including my friends. Now they tried to stop an event showing property in Israel. They don’t want us here, they don’t want us there… But today they tried to bring the fight to our doorstep and we said: ‘No Pasaran! They shall not pass!’

In front of the hostile terrorist-supporting audience, just before I left the hall, I did one last thing - over my official tuxedo, I wore a T-shirt that I had brought. The video on the left (now with blurred out face) is of a Jewish man walking his dog who, enraged at the awful chants coming from the pro Hamas lot, gave them the finger. As you can see, he was pushed away by police and warned that if he didn’t leave he’d face arrest. The video on the right shows someone in the pro Hamas group, giving a Jewish person the finger in front of a police officer who did nothing. The two tier element couldn’t be starker. For more than year British Jews have had to put up with this light policing of groups of people who are not shy about expressing their support of the aims of Hamas. This is emboldening and radicalising people. It puts us all in danger. Being antisemitic and hateful towards British Jews will do nothing to help the people of Gaza.

They were there to help as my dad died a few weeks ago, trying to get his heart started again. This hits hard as we don’t know where it ends.

Just yesterday Jewish leaders asked the government not to rile things up before the high holidays when the terror threat against us is on high alert. Last year two men were killed and three others injured during a terrorist attack on a synagogue. So our twat of a Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband completely ignores them with this moody film bewailing the fact that people are struggling in Gaza. Of course they are. It’s terrible that many of the people of Gaza are living in tents while Hamas continues to keep them hostage having started a horrendous war that has seen thousands die. But none of that is mentioned by Miliband who kosherises Labour’s plans to attack Israel because it’s politically expedient. Cynical cynical cynical.
