It was quite difficult to get hold of. Since it is made from rice and nuruk, a traditional fermentation starter, wouldn’t it be classified as yakju, a traditional Korean rice wine? 👩[Oh Yu-kyung, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS)] : Yes. 👩🏫However, if it were classified as yakju, it would have to display an expiration or use-by date, as we discussed earlier. So vitamin C was added, and the product was classified as “other alcoholic beverages.” As a result, it does not have to display a use-by date. However, after the management of alcoholic beverage labeling was consolidated under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), all yakju became subject to the requirement, regardless of whether it had been sterilized. It was grouped together with beer, takju, and other beverages. 👩🏫I looked for the rationale behind including sterilized yakju in the labeling requirements at the time. I received the same answer you did: the relevant records from 2013 were no longer available. I then examined a research report on improving expiration date management that the MFDS commissioned in 2016. 👩🏫As you can see in this presentation, the report states that an alcohol concentration of 10% or higher makes it impossible for contaminants or fermentative microorganisms to grow, meaning that additional expiration date labeling is unnecessary. Is that correct? I’d also like to show you another report. The overseas regulations cited in that report indicate that countries such as Japan exempt alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of 10% or higher from expiration or use-by date labeling requirements. This is also supported by international examples. 👩🏫Now, if you look here, you can see the alcohol content of OnTheLAMP. It is a sterilized yakju with an alcohol content of 12.4%. 👩🏫If our regulations are based on scientific evidence and aligned with international standards, I believe the product could have been exempt from the use-by date labeling requirement even if it had been classified as sterilized yakju rather than as another type of alcoholic beverage. 👩🏫The products shown on the screen are also sterilized yakju varieties with an alcohol content above 10%. Director, the MFDS's own research indicates that microbial growth is difficult at alcohol concentrations of 10% or higher, and overseas regulations also exempt such beverages from use-by date labeling based on this threshold. Why, then, was a blanket requirement imposed on even sterilized yakju with an alcohol content of 10% or higher? As you mentioned earlier, was it because safety assessments were given greater priority at the time? 👩Yes, that is our current understanding... 👩🏫Now, we must ensure that Korean wine and traditional Korean alcoholic beverages are not pushed out of global markets because of this unreasonable regulation, shouldn't we? There is scientific evidence to support a change, and international standards provide a basis for it as well. I believe the regulations should be improved as soon as possible. Earlier, you said you would review the matter. The group performed for a little over two hours in front of approximately 70,000 people, and the scenes around the National Stadium were truly amazing and impressive. An enormous number of ARMYs flocked to the venue. Some fans were unable to get tickets for the concert. Since BTS had returned to our country after 10 years, they didn't want to miss the chance to see them, no matter what. They wanted to hear BTS's voices, even if it was just from outside the National Stadium. There were also highly anticipated moments during the concerts in Peru and Colombia. News that the BTS members had spoken Spanish made headlines. The same thing happened in Chile. The liquor itself is fermented. It's yakju, and since it's a clear liquor, it's also close to cheongju. However, under the current Liquor Tax Act, it's classified as other liquor. 👩💼 Let's see what delicious ingredients have been added. 👨💼 Vitamin C! 👩💼 I love it! I love it! Vitamin C has antioxidant effects. Was it added specifically for that reason? 👨💼 That's one reason, but adding vitamin C also helps improve the product's shelf life. 👨💼 Second, because of that, when it's classified as other liquor, there are no particular issues regarding its expiration date. Yakju has a designated expiration date, which makes it very difficult to export it worldwide.
