She moved to Vietnam. Vietnam reminded her that she is an immigrant. Police showed up at her apartment, searched it and checked her paperwork. No appointment. No debate. She tried to downplay the whole thing by calling it โstandardized.โ Interesting choice of word. Other countries enforce their borders without apologizing for having them. A disturbing incident took place at a lake. The sister of a young Black girl says a man pulled up his dock ladder while her sibling was trying to climb out of the water. The girl cried out that she could not breathe and begged for help, but the man refused, telling her to go around. According to the sister, two women nearby said โyou people shouldnโt be swimming hereโ while the child was being dragged under by waves from passing boats. Moss and weeds on the dock made it impossible for her to climb out, and she was slipping below the surface gasping for air. The sister also says that the same man had earlier let white children use the ladder but removed it when her Black sister reached for it. She says she pulled her sibling out herself and believes that if she hadnโt acted, her sister would not have survived. This reflects a wider pattern. Black people have long been treated with hostility and exclusion around pools, lakes, and other bodies of water. A Black man went to the hospital after a car accident, complaining of a headache and fearing a concussion. But instead of getting medical help, the nurse mocked him, calling him โDrunky McDrunk Pantsโ and insisting he was intoxicated, despite his repeated denials. She was rude, dismissive, and called the police, who accused him of being โbelligerent.โ He eventually took a breathalyzer just to end the harassment and passed. Now heโs preparing to sue the hospital for their misconduct.

Doctors refused to perform CPR on a Black college student who was hit by a car. The family was left with the emotionally daunting task of perform CPR on the patient after the hospital stated that they wanted to take his organs instead.
