My friend Gary Harris brought this musician named D'Angelo over to my NYC apt. He was trying to figure out what to do with the music he'd brought with him. I listened to every cut...not just out of respect but because it was smoking. At the end of the encounter he asked me, "What should I do with it?" I remember this as if it were yesterday. I said, "Put it out. It's perfect!" Being the #artist he is, I guess he had to explore some ways to make it better. About a year later I heard one of those songs on the radio. It was #genius and it was exactly what he had played for me. I know...I still have the original cassette. ~Nile Rodgers❤️🙏🏾✊🏾

Following reports that the right wing SVP party in Switzerland has used a #WeAreFamily sound-alike song in a political video without permission, #NileRodgers made the following statement: “I wrote ‘We Are Family’ to be the ultimate song about inclusion and diversity at all levels, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion or sexual orientation. I condemn its use by the SVP (Swiss People's Party) or anyone else not keeping with the values of the song and all decent people. The purpose of the song is to bring joy to all with no exclusions!” @HipgnosisSongs , Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music are all working to have the SVP cease and desist their use of the song. Ace RIP was the 1st person I met when we were forming CHIC! KISS were playing at a spot called Le Jardin. Without his makeup nobody recognized him as he sat at my table. Only a few minutes before the crowd were losing their shit over him. I learned a lot that night. Truly historic #rock

It is a true honor to be recognized by the The New York Times, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who voted for me. To be counted among colleagues that I love and have had the privilege to work with throughout my career makes this moment even more special - I couldn’t be happier to share it with such great company. I feel like big things are coming. I’m doing more jazz which is enriching my soul. But I hope it still wants people to dance. At any rate I feel happy and all my life I’ve always had to climb mountains to succeed. #life #happy #work #earth #collaboration
