*Spoiler Alert* Scroll on if you plan to attend U2 at the Sphere and want to be surprised! If you’ve ever been to a concert and thought you’d witnessed a spectacle of great production, forget everything you’ve ever known. This is unlike anything I’ve seen, and I’ve been on a lot of stages with a lot of different artists. Last night we were fortunate (thanks to a few of our friends) to be present for what felt like an historic occasion. We were amongst the very first people to experience opening night of U2 at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Every other stage, every other concert venue, every other lighting rig- is now dwarfed in comparison. At first, the sphere appeared “closed.” The stage seemed small and bare, and there were only 4 lighting fixtures around it. It quickly became evident that no one needs a large stage or fancy overheads in The Sphere. I pretty much stood up the entire show, looking up, mouth open in awe of what I was witnessing. The shape of the venue morphed and twisted. At times it felt as if you’d entered another dimension. There were times when it seemed we were outside, in daylight or night. People were gasping in awe. It was a truly powerful experience. The video I put together below can’t do it justice. Bono sounded great. Edge sounded great. I’m so, so, so glad it was a rock band that got to unleash this new era of concert venues to the world. Many celebrities were in attendance. Most importantly (to me), Paul McCartney was there to experience opening night. Sometimes, living in Las Vegas has its perks. #mgmsphere #sphere #u2 #lasvegas

Eruption - Van Halen - Violin Cover by Nina D My journey to learn Eruption began a few years ago, when I only had access to a 5-string fretless violin. I learned a small bit of it, and quickly realized that I would need to compromise the octave range, and the finger tapping in order to perform it. There are a few covers out there of violinists doing just that, and they are very impressive. Anyone who knows me, knows that I did not want to do that. I wanted to sound like Eddie. Thus began my journey with the 7-string fretted violin. Pretty much the entire reason for having this instrument custom-made (thanks Wood Violins crew!) was to see if I could play Eruption. At the time of purchase, I wasn’t even sure if it would be physically possible to do the finger tapping, even with the new instrument. Upon its arrival, my first task was to learn how to play the darn thing- it’s like a completely different instrument, the neck is huge, I am tiny, and the low strings are super thick. (I also had to buy a special bow to properly play it). If your bow arm falters by a millimeter, you will hit the surrounding strings. Once I had this part somewhat down, I knew I had to dive into the hardest part right away- to answer the question, “but will it tap?” I began with transcribing this beast of a solo into notation. If you play guitar, and you want to learn how to play pretty much anything, you can go to YouTube and find slow note for note tutorials on EXACTLY how to do so. This doesn’t exist for trying to translate guitar things to a violin. You’re on your own. I tried it out with my normal rig. Pretty much dead sound. Nothing happening but noise. I had a few ideas for specialty pedals. Since you can’t really go to the store and try pedals any more, I bought one, it didn’t work, shipped it back, bought a different one, didn’t work, shipped it back, etc. ad nauseam. Months went by. It seemed for every step forward I took in achieving this technique, I took two steps back with new problems. For months, my poor family listened to what sounded like a train wreck falling on top of a car wreck falling off the Empire State Building. Brody even said to me, “it ain’t gonna happen.” So I locked myself away until it did. I struggled and fought the limitations of the instrument. I had some hard practice days, but the best motivation for me is “it can’t be done.” It took a combination of newly learned left and right hand technique, played precisely, practiced slowly for clarity, FOREVER to even make the right sound. The spaces that you need to hit, quickly, on a fretted violin are much smaller than that of a guitar. I tweaked the effect chain and technique right up until the 11th hour on the very final day of doing this. One day near the end of it, I was practicing in the studio and Brody was taking a shower. When he got out, he said to me he thought I was playing the recording of Van Halen. That was my breakthrough day. I knew I was close. I haven’t worked this hard since my masters recital on classical violin. I’ve ripped up my fingers to shreds, they bled, they blistered. Eddie Van Halen was in a class all of his own. His sound, technique, rhythm, and musicality changed the game for all guitarists (and this electric violinist) that followed. I am a far better performer, a far better violinist, with a much larger range of abilities, thanks to the months (or years) I put into dissecting his style and taking the time to do this on a violin as close to how he did it (so effortlessly) on a guitar as possible. Thank you, EVH, for making so many of us better musicians. ❤️🤍🖤 Audio Mixing/programming, Drone footage and video editing, Fog jets and laser programming: Brody Dolyniuk Filming: Patrick Rivera Photography Lighting: Robert Brassard Custom Made Eddie Van Halen Outfit: 3x Emmy-nominated costume designer Diana Eden HMU: the MOBB Group Graphics: Derryl Rice #eruption #vanhalen #eddievanhalen #evh #cover #coversong #guitarsolo #violin

Eruption- Van Halen- Eddie Van Halen Guitar Solo- Electric Violin Cover by Nina D Nina’s Notes 🎶: This was by far the hardest thing I’ve learned thus far on electric violin in the rock genre. This is the solo of all solos. While there is no shortage of covers and tutorials on the internet for a guitarist who wants to learn it, when I went to learn it, almost nothing of the sort existed for violin. There were a few covers out there on acoustic violin that are great- but anyone who knows me, knows I wanted to try and sound as authentic to Eddie as possible, on violin. There were many steps to this process, the biggest being learning how to finger tap on a violin. It was a long process of trial/error and practice to achieve the effect chain and technique. Some FAQ: 1.) It is a 7-string violin, not a chin guitar. If you don’t understand why, ask me a question! I will gladly answer. (But don’t state something as fact you have no experience in). I am a classically trained violinist who also plays electric violin, guitar, bass, and piano. I am qualified to answer your questions. 2.) It’s not easier to play on a violin. (Violin is never the “easy” instrument). 3.) Yes, I write my own music, but that has no bearing at all on being an instrumentalist. The best virtuoso instrumentalists in the word mostly do not write music because they practice all the time- to be the best they can be at their instrument. (Touring soloists, session players, hired guns for A-listers). 4.) No, I’m not miming to Eddie. You can come see this live on my tour dates with Femmes of Rock. You can also find live videos of this on YouTube. We lost a legend today. Ozzy Osbourne was infamous for his antics, but I think sometimes he didn't get enough credit for being a REALLY GREAT singer and songwriter. His voice is top- notch in the realm of rock/metal voices. I've been a fan from the first time I heard No More Tears as a child (and then discovered everything else after that). Not only was he iconic, but he always had an iconic guitar player as well, all of them. I spent a lot of my formative years listening to this music and trying to emulate it on violin. Over the years, I've covered a number of Ozzy or Black Sabbath songs. Today I'll share them throughout the day in tribute. RIP Prince of Darkness, and thank you. 🖤 First, here's Crazy Train which I recorded a few years ago. #crazytrain #ozzy #ozzyosbourne #randyrhoads

Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd- David Gilmour Guitar Solos- Violin Cover by Nina D Nina's Notes🎼: Though I am not trained in jazz (I have a classical background in violin and theory), I've always been fascinated with the genre. One of the things they tell you when learning jazz is that if you want to become a great soloist yourself, transcribe great solos. This process allows your brain to analyze and absorb what it is hearing. As a classical player, improvisation was foreign to me. My favorite genres are classic rock and prog, so naturally those were the solos I first gravitated to when learning to transcribe. I transcribed this solo in my late teens, one of my first, as this is one of the best and was at the top of my list. I've learned something new from each solo I've ever transcribed. For those who bash anyone playing "cover music," really they just don't understand the skills that are necessary to becoming a great instrumentalist. It takes constant hours, years, of practice, of scales, etudes, and standard repertoire (in any genre) to remain competent on your instrument. Transcribing and performing these rock solos has added to my rock competence, the same way learning Mozart or Bach has added to my classical competence. #pinkfloyd #comfortablynumb #davidgilmour #cover #coversong #violincover

Continuing on with posts honoring Ozzy- No More Tears is the first of his songs I ever heard when I was a kid. I immediately bought a bunch of his cds. It doesn't really get much more badass than this. Some people have asked why I am not singing any of his songs to honor him- well, that's because I'm not a singer, I'm an instrumentalist. Playing the solos of the top-notch guitarists he surrounded himself with is the best I can do, and this one by Zakk Wylde is certainly top-notch. #ozzy #ozzyosbourne #zakkwylde #nomoretears

Babe I’m Gonna Leave You- Led Zeppelin- Violin Cover by Nina D Wait for the twist at the end… Wait again- how is this a violin and also the instrument I played on Eruption also a violin? Because adding extra strings and frets doesn’t change the fact that you have to be a VIOLINIST to play both of them. #ledzeppelin #babeimgonnaleaveyou #25or6to4 #chicago #cover #coversong #violin #violincover #classicrock
