Infrastructure failures like this week’s water main break in West Hollywood are the result of decades of neglect. Los Angeles cannot be governed from crisis to crisis. When you call 911 to report a crime, you shouldn’t be put on hold. Many Angelenos don’t trust official crime statistics, because when responses are slow, crimes don’t get reported. On council, I’ve voted against contracts and projects pushed by powerful interests that have bankrupted the city and taken money away from basic city services. When I’m mayor, 911 calls will be answered immediately, and the right help will come quickly.

On June 17th, the Lineage cold storage facility in Boyle Heights caught on fire, burning for days. As black smoke spewed into the neighborhood and into the region, Mayor Karen Bass repeatedly told residents the air was safe, contradicting the advice of air quality and public health experts. We must uncover what happened, release the facts, force Lineage to pay, deliver relief, and fix the failures that allowed this crisis to happen.

Los Angeles deserves a mayor that doesn't drag their feet. Karen Bass promised change. Instead, Angelenos got delays. It took years to appoint a film liaison. Our animal shelters went years without stable leadership. Whenever our city needs urgency, City Hall moves too slowly. These aren't just bureaucratic delays. They have real consequences for the people who live and work here. LA needs a mayor that acts with urgency, builds a strong team, and gets things done. That's the kind of leadership I will bring to City Hall.

It has been more 17 months since the Palisades fire, and there is still no plan for rebuilding and no one in charge. We need real leadership and accountability. My Palisades recovery plan focuses on holding insurance companies accountable, accelerating city approvals, creating a recovery district led by residents that brings more dollars for critical infrastructure improvements.

This is what Angelenos are dealing with right now. Nithya wrote LA’s Sanctuary City ordinance, and as mayor, she’ll enforce it and use every tool available to protect Angelenos, regardless of status. And while she is showing up for Angelenos, others in this race are actively supporting ICE. LA needs a mayor who is clear about where they stand.
