❗️A new national June maximum has been recorded❗️ Bromley, a Christchurch suburb, reached 26°C today. This is: 🌡️ NZ's all-time highest June temp 🌡️ NZ's second highest winter temp 🌡️ Of note Lincoln reached 25.7°C, NZ's 2nd highest June temperature & 3rd highest for winter

Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle is intensifying in the Coral Sea... This animation shows future track possibilities (🟡), many of which have a landfall in the North Island on Monday or Tuesday. ❗️ Should this occur, very heavy rain, damaging winds & dangerous seas would be expected.

The tropics are a very moist, humid place. As Tropical #CycloneGabrielle tracks out of the tropics, it will bring all of that moisture (🟣) with it! NZ's complex terrain can further enhance rainfall amounts. This is why there is a concern for over a month's worth of rain.

Unseasonable warmth will be widespread across NZ on Thursday afternoon. 🥵 Much of the North Island will reach the mid-to-late 20s, but the east coast will have a good chance to exceed 30°C. 🌡️ Similarly, the eastern South Island will see temperatures near 30°C.
