URGENT APPEAL This is Njeri Mugure She is 28 years and was born deaf. Her mother locked her away about 10 years ago due to her disability. She sometimes is even chained on the seat and never allowed to go outside. Due to the deplorable conditions, and malnutrition, lack of sun and she often left in her own excrement. Her bones are brittle andis unable to walk unsupported. Her language is now guttural sounds, whereas neighbours say that she used to be vocal. Njeri has not been cleaned in a long time and our ED Njeri and the house mum have been cleaning her but due to the formation of scales on her skin. She also has oral thrush and other issues. Having rescued her , we took her to hospital and reported the matter to Kihara Police, we are doing P3s today for the arrest of the mother due to gross negligence. We need your help for her care for the next three months. Njeri needs a caregiver as she is unable to hold her urine or excrement. We need diapers and gloves. We need a portaloo to potty train her , a small walker to aid movement and drugs as well as supplements that have been prescribed. We will stay with her for three months as we figure her next steps. Most of you know the work we do in GBV, we also do work in women empowerment. The two work in tandem. You know if you invite me to a conference, I stay behind and collect unused pens and notebooks for further use. I mean reduce, reuse and recycle. Lol. But most importantly I pick what we can use for our EMPAWA Mama program on Saturdays. I ask women who can share their skills to come to Soweto and speak to usm This Saturday we celebrated IWD and we did what we do best. Our Chama women met and were trained by one of the best Chama trainers CHAMA Champions who visited and gave great insights on how we can continue to grow VW Babes came to Soweto to participate and support our work and heh we have never seen these many VWs. The ladies stayed and also built our capacity We had a partnership with chiraz International at Jacaranda Hotel as usual we went with our Soweto mamas and there were topics like burnout, toxic relationships led by our own psychologist Njoki Maina. We also learnt first aid and self defense. And Separ will be coming to Soweto to train our ladies in first aid as well as self defense. That is how we Accelerate Action #Usikimye

This is Florence Nyaga. She was 43 years old and worked at Freddyz Salon, Platinum Plaza. Florence's daughter had tried to call her on Friday but she didn't pick her calls. On Saturday her phone was off, her daughter decided to visit her place - Faiths Apartments, Lumumba Drive, Roysambu. She found her mum's body, she had been beaten and stabbed to death. The matter was reported to Kasarani Police Station and they later picked up her body. The alleged suspect is Faith's Husband - Daniel Macharia Mburu who is at large and is now wanted by the police. Any information that can lead to his arrest kindly contact Kasarani Police or the nearest police station. Do you remember Njeri? This is an update on how far we have come. Njeri is still with us at our Safehouse. Ssshe graduated from using a wheelchair to a walker and finally to walking unassisted. In fact she contributes to the care of the Safehouse. She cleans the table after every meal. She's cheerful , loves people and company,and enjoys her food, she can communicate through grunts and gestures. She's moved from diapers to the commode. She even sleeps through the night without the aid of melatonin which she needed for the first two months after her ordeal of being locked away for 10 years We don't know what the future is for Njeri but for now she's safe, well taken care off and happy. Once again , thank you for your support. #Usikimye
