“I’m getting really disappointed… the regional format is - really concerning me if we’re talking about what’s best for student athletes.” Auburn Coach Butch Thompson raises concern about the amount of starting pitchers that were coming back, throwing again, and totaling over 100 pitches during Regional weekend of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. ⚠️ A rare opinion of mine that I will include in a press conference clip that I post 👇 So many new eyeballs are finding College Baseball’s postseason fascinating because of the Tournament format and all the chaos that we’ve seen over the past two years. I have no doubt that the ratings have boomed. I don’t know why you would try to fix what is not broken, then again they changed the NCAA Basketball Tournament too. HOWEVER, Butch has a point with the usage of pitchers in a 3-game series vs playing 5 games in a weekend. This is the biggest/best argument you can make against the current NCAAT format. I am not a fan of change, but I’m willing to provide a platform for passionate individuals with incredibly illustrative thoughts on a new NCAA Tournament format that logically makes sense given the current academic calendar.

Gosh darn it, another power program that spends six figures in college baseball just lost to a team that doesn’t even fund 20 scholarships. Baseball is a sport I cannot enjoy when there's an enormous talent gap. Did I do this correctly Tom Fornelli?

UCLA Coach John Savage doesn’t want to make excuses for the Bruins’ loss but he does go into detail about the freak injuries and players that left or were absent from today’s game. “We’ve kinda been playing - on that tightrope a little bit so I understand that.” - Will Gasparino, suspension, will play on Sat. - Aiden Aguayo, rolled ankle, questionable - Payton Brennan, oblique, questionable - Logan Reddemann, arm, out for weekend

“Utterly mismanaged.” Coastal Carolina Coach Kevin Schnall gets it all out. He detailed what it was like waiting out the weather situation on Saturday. He also pondered aloud why FSU Coach Ty Megahee was ejected for arguing balls and strikes while Link Jarrett was not. Notably, Schnall and his 1B Coach Matt Schilling were ejected from Game 2 of the CWS Finals last year.

In the postgame presser Florida Coach Todd Golden said the officials told him that Alvaro threw a punch but since it didn’t connect, there wasn’t validation for an ejection. Folgeuiras would go on to hit the game winning shot and be Iowa’s second leading scorer in the game

“I look at it as a nice challenge. I don’t look at it and go ‘oh my gosh’. I just look at it and say I’m going to figure this shit out, some way somehow.” Vanderbilt Coach Tim Corbin comments on the current landscape of College Baseball When listening to Corbin’s answer it doesn’t make me think he’s retiring anytime soon. In fact, it kind of reminded me of Coach Brian O’Connor in Omaha during the 2024 CWS. One caveat, I don’t think Corbs is leaving Vandy.

I went through the camera angles that the ESPN broadcast showed. The only warning I saw Coastal Carolina Coaches Kevin Schnall and Matt Schilling receive was within 15 seconds of the ejection. That just can’t happen in a CWS Finals Elimination Game. #MCWS

If LSU came back to beat Auburn these two strike three calls that were overturned by ABS challenges would have been HUGE. This is why ABS is good for the game of baseball. I wouldn’t be upset if it was implemented into the 2026 College World Series, I’d actually applaud the NCAA

I have massive respect towards Coastal Carolina Coach Kevin Schnall for answering my question thoroughly and using the postgame platform to explain his side of the story. “As an umpire I feel like it’s your job to manage the game, the National Championship game, with some poise, some calmness, and a little bit of tolerance.”

Disclaimer: I’m all for letting the kids play However we’ve seen players ejected and suspended for much less than this in a postseason college baseball setting. Zach Root was way overboard here. Warning both teams for this was a slap in the face to Tennessee.
