Troy Coach Skylar Meade peels the curtain back, just a tad, on how scheduling works in College Baseball. “It’s not always like, ‘oh, they didn’t schedule,’ people can say no… When I got to Troy, I’ll never forget, Jay Johnson called me — and he was like, ‘hey man, we gotta flip something on the schedule.’ We were supposed to go there in ‘23.” This is just one specific example, there’s many other cancellations that happen behind the scenes with much less reasoning than I’m sure Coach Johnson gave. Furthermore, this past offseason Mercer thought they had a series with Kentucky on their 2026 schedule. That series never ended up coming to fruition. AT MINIMUM if you added 3 losses to Kentucky and took away 3 wins vs (ex: Penn or Columbia) Mercer would have finished 41-18 with a SOCON title and not nearly as bad of a non-conference strength of schedule and probably an even higher RPI.

Oklahoma Coach Skip Johnson is one of a kind “I think I’m the same guy. I mean I still dip snuff, deer hunt, fish, I’m the same guy. I mean I love teaching players.” Was Johnson’s response to Ryan McGee’s Q about what he’s carried from the ‘22 Oklahoma run or how he’s evolved😅

“It’s hard for me to get mad at Carter French. But I was mad in the moment,” said North Carolina Coach Scott Forbes about the 3rd out at third base in the second inning. “It was a mistake. But he owns the mistake, we all own it… that wasn’t the reason we lost the game.”

In the postgame presser Florida Coach Todd Golden said the officials told him that Alvaro threw a punch but since it didn’t connect, there wasn’t validation for an ejection. Folgeuiras would go on to hit the game winning shot and be Iowa’s second leading scorer in the game

“I can’t believe Florida lost 18 times. JESUS … That looks like an Omaha team… That was a really good team. We would have had to play a whole lot cleaner to win that baseball game.” Strong praise from Vanderbilt Coach Tim Corbin when talking about the Gators.

North Carolina Coach Scott Forbes got emotional talking about the performance of first baseman Erik Paulsen on Father’s Day: “His dad was awesome. I mean straight NYPD, a bad dude. He served us, he served our country, he served during 9/11 I know he’s with Erik, I know he’s watching Erik. “I love [Erik Paulsen] like a son, hopefully he feels that,” Forbes finished.

“I’m getting really disappointed… the regional format is - really concerning me if we’re talking about what’s best for student athletes.” Auburn Coach Butch Thompson raises concern about the amount of starting pitchers that were coming back, throwing again, and totaling over 100 pitches during Regional weekend of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. ⚠️ A rare opinion of mine that I will include in a press conference clip that I post 👇 So many new eyeballs are finding College Baseball’s postseason fascinating because of the Tournament format and all the chaos that we’ve seen over the past two years. I have no doubt that the ratings have boomed. I don’t know why you would try to fix what is not broken, then again they changed the NCAA Basketball Tournament too. HOWEVER, Butch has a point with the usage of pitchers in a 3-game series vs playing 5 games in a weekend. This is the biggest/best argument you can make against the current NCAAT format. I am not a fan of change, but I’m willing to provide a platform for passionate individuals with incredibly illustrative thoughts on a new NCAA Tournament format that logically makes sense given the current academic calendar.

Gosh darn it, another power program that spends six figures in college baseball just lost to a team that doesn’t even fund 20 scholarships. Baseball is a sport I cannot enjoy when there's an enormous talent gap. Did I do this correctly Tom Fornelli?

All six starting pitchers that have been used by the teams in the College World Series Finals were recruited out of high school to their respective programs. "I've always believed with my pitching background that if you're 17 or 18 years old, and you got command, and you know 90-92 with three pitches, that usually doesn't go backwards." In fact, out of the last six teams to play in the CWS Finals (UNC, OU, LSU, Coastal Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M) 15 of the 17 (88%) starting pitchers used on their first three gamedays in Omaha were recruited to their institutions out of H.S. "It's good recruiting by both sides and I think that's why we're both in the finals,” Forbes added.

I went through the camera angles that the ESPN broadcast showed. The only warning I saw Coastal Carolina Coaches Kevin Schnall and Matt Schilling receive was within 15 seconds of the ejection. That just can’t happen in a CWS Finals Elimination Game. #MCWS

West Virginia Coach Steve Sabins goes into great detail about the Biomechanics Lab that WVU Baseball has on campus. “For Courtney Semkewyc it was kind of a no brainer… She’s a unicorn - PHD in Biomechanics, that’s a baseball rat, that wants to be in a dugout, and be at practice all day, and grind. You can’t just go create that person or system.”

I have massive respect towards Coastal Carolina Coach Kevin Schnall for answering my question thoroughly and using the postgame platform to explain his side of the story. “As an umpire I feel like it’s your job to manage the game, the National Championship game, with some poise, some calmness, and a little bit of tolerance.”

Q: “Would you vote Ben McCollum to be the Governor of Iowa?” Tavion Banks: “Oh hell yeah.” Bennett Stirtz: “Yeah I’d do it too.” Alvaro Folgeurias: “I didn’t understand it.” McCollum: “… Governor is like the President of Iowa.” Folgeurias: “I’ll vote for you … I’m an immigrant, I don’t have a vote.”

UCLA Coach John Savage doesn’t want to make excuses for the Bruins’ loss but he does go into detail about the freak injuries and players that left or were absent from today’s game. “We’ve kinda been playing - on that tightrope a little bit so I understand that.” - Will Gasparino, suspension, will play on Sat. - Aiden Aguayo, rolled ankle, questionable - Payton Brennan, oblique, questionable - Logan Reddemann, arm, out for weekend

“If he was getting on base we were going to run for him,” Georgia Coach Wes Johnson talking about pinch running for star Daniel Jackson in the 9th inning. “It’ll go down as one of the best single season performances in the history of our game. The guy was 25/25 — as a catcher.”

“Our student section is terrible… where are they?” Coach Greg Kampe is spot on here 🎯 Oakland Basketball is 20 months removed from a NCAA Tournament win over Kentucky! The Golden Grizzlies have scheduled aggressively and have looked great in ‘25-‘26!
