All of the old Disney animators spinning in their graves.

Down with A.I.

Was Tex Avery's JERKY TURKEY (1945) the first time they used the iconic painted tunnel gag? (Or brick wall, in this case.)

A perfect gag.

R.I.P. Guy Moon, composer on THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS and DANNY PHANTOM. I love that "bwwomp" reaction sound he used to do on DP.

RIP Catherine O'Hara.

As a kid, I assumed Lew Lehr must be some incredibly famous guy that all adults knew because of how often he was spoofed in cartoons. Turns out, he was a newsreel host in the 1930s that is mainly remembered today through cartoon parodies.

Shield yourself from this awful A.I. slop with some good old-fashioned cartooning.

I always loved this bit of trivia. Both Daffy and Bugs used the "nimrod" gag, but Daffy actually said it first.

I wouldn't mind watching commercials if they were all by Jim Henson.

Born today in 1913: Looney Tunes genius Bob Clampett, a true wild man and artistic innovator whose work was always so, so funny.

This is the kind of absurd gag we need more of.

Looney Tunes brilliance. Directed by the great Bob Clampett,

Standout moment from Tex Avery's classic MAGICAL MAESTRO (1952).

This is such a clever gag.

I guess you're doing something right if you're getting imitated! I just happened upon a YouTube video about wild takes in animation that seems to be largely lifted from an article I wrote for Cartoon Brew... or at least it's an "unreasonable facsimile" as Bugs Bunny might say.

Perfect comic timing from Tex Avery.

Clara Bow is so wonderful in this movie (WINGS, 1927). Truly a living Betty Boop and a master of physical acting. If you're an animator, her movements and expressions are well worth studying.

One of my favorites because I have no idea what his plan even was here.

I always love how cynical the classic Looney Tunes shorts are. Every marriage is hell, every kid is a brat, no products you buy ever work, and everybody's trying to kill each other.

The great Eric Goldberg did a hand-drawn animated pencil test for the original MOANA. Here's a comparison between Goldberg's animation and the finished version.

Yeah, and they're brilliant. Also, no one was "lied to." It was openly acknowledged that these were made for the war effort and that info has never been hidden. Why should it be?

Remake it with hand-drawn animation instead. Animation test by Eric Goldberg.

RIP Tom Kane, the unmistakable voice of Professor Utonium in THE POWERPUFF GIRLS.

This 1953 Woody Woodpecker scene resembles the gross-ups you see in REN & STIMPY and SPONGEBOB many years later.

R.I.P. Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of Harley Quinn. The way Sorkin was able to combine twisted loopiness with a hint of sympathetic sadness is key to what made the character work so well.

One of the last cartoons Chuck Jones ever directed and a highlight of his later career: CHARIOTS OF FUR (1994), his last Road Runner short, animated by a bunch of moonlighting Disney animators under fake names who were getting fed up with the executive interference on POCAHONTAS.

I saw the ODYSSEY movie a few days ago (it was great) and it got me thinking about Ray Harryhausen's amazing stop-motion Cyclops in THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD. Imagine how difficult it must've been to match up the creature's actions to the live-action footage using 1958 technology.

RIP Sam Kieth, creator of THE MAXX and artist on THE SANDMAN.

The 1934 Ub Iwerks cartoon HELL'S FIRE shows the residents of Hell to be Napoleon, Nero, Rasputin, Cleopatra, Simon Legree (the villain from Uncle Tom's Cabin), Bluebeard, Dr. Jekyll, and Mr. Dry (the symbol for Prohibition).

Don't waste your time with terrible AI fruit videos when you can watch Mickey Rooney lead an orchestra of fruits, featuring practical effects by the great George Pal.

I could never pick, but the comedy timing here is flawless.

In honor of Jane Russell's birthday, he's one of the all-time great movie bloopers that got left in the movie itself. Jane getting knocked into the pool in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) was an accident, but it was so funny it was left in.

This is so exciting to hear!

One of the funniest characters.

Amazing Tic Tac commercial from 1976, by the great Richard Williams (of WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT fame).

This one. (Directed by former Looney Tunes animator Frank Tashlin.)

This 1953 Woody Woodpecker scene resembles the gross-ups you see in REN & STIMPY and SPONGEBOB many years later.
