I want to have a child someday, so I wanted to freeze my eggs while I’m at my healthiest. I knew the side effects could include water retention and bloating, but I also knew these were temporary and would eventually go away. I did my own research because I like to plan my life, including my finances, career, and personal goals. Having a child is part of that plan. If I start a family in the future, I definitely want children. I gave myself hormone injections for four days to stimulate egg production, and I had my eggs retrieved yesterday. I felt quite relaxed throughout the process. The injections actually didn’t hurt me. They’re subcutaneous injections, meaning they go just under the skin, and I barely felt them. I think my mindset helped, too—expecting pain can make me more sensitive to it. I’d previously taught patients with diabetes how to give themselves similar injections, so I was familiar with the process. I told myself it wouldn’t hurt, and for me, it really didn’t. After the retrieval, I could return to my normal daily routine, but I was advised to avoid exercise for about three to four days. I asked my doctor whether I could work out right away because the hormonal side effects were quite intense for me. My body and face were noticeably bloated, almost like water retention from too much sodium. My doctor told me to be patient and give my body time to return to normal before exercising again.”
