divorce attorney James Sexton says he has a "PhD in infidelity" after 25 years repping cheaters, the cheated on, AND the paramours his theory on why the nanny affair happens so often: it's rarely about beauty or age, it's proximity + novelty. she's just... there

the divorce data pisses off conservatives and liberals equally and I love that for me college educated people divorce less. higher income people divorce less. tell that to conservatives and suddenly they're not into "fix the economy" married-with-kids couples do better than childless ones. tell that to progressives and suddenly they think you want women barefoot and pregnant nobody actually wants the stats, they want the stats that confirm what they already believe

James Sexton on why dating apps break the market: unlimited choice is an illusion. A small % of men get all the attention, learn they don't need monogamy, and everyone else is left resentful or convinced "all men are the same." They're not. Just the ones with too many options.

Divorce lawyer James Sexton says when someone finds out they've been cheated on and wants to file immediately, he tells them to slow down first. One client took his advice, found a therapist, stayed married, had two more kids. Fifteen years later the guy found him at a car dealership just to say thank you.

James Sexton explains why "why don't we have sex anymore" is the worst possible opening line the fix isn't a criticism, it's an invitation back to a place you used to be together "come with me, remember how close we felt" hits different than "you're never in the mood"

divorce lawyer James Sexton on the part nobody talks about: kids know they're half mom, half dad. if the two halves hate each other, some part of the kid feels broken. it also rips them out of childhood too fast. no more "my dad's the strongest man alive." just... reality, way ahead of schedule.

men: give her a menu. "I can just listen. I can give advice. we can go roll around and forget about it. or we can order pizza and zone out." let her pick. she'll tell you if it's not working. took James Sexton 50 years to learn this. you can learn it in 30 seconds

Divorce lawyer James Sexton on "once a cheater, always a cheater": false. His take: cheating proves you're capable of crossing from thought to action, not that you're doomed to repeat it. The hard truth he learned firsthand: there's no version of cheating that doesn't cause pain. To you, to them, to the person you cheated with. The real work is having the uncomfortable conversation before you act on it.

divorce lawyer James Sexton called his ex-wife years later just to apologize. not for cheating, not for lying — for being too self-absorbed to notice how overwhelmed she was while he built his firm. "we rarely wake up and decide to screw up our marriage. it's obliviousness, not cruelty."

James Sexton on why he doesn't buy the body count discourse: sometimes the path to excess leads to the palace of wisdom. You have to chase the hedonism, the materialism, the wrong turns, before you realize none of it gives you lasting joy. That's not a moral failure, that's just the journey.

the reason he never told you he was unhappy isn't because he's a liar. it's because the last time someone told you an uncomfortable truth, you made them regret it. conflict avoidant people don't choose comfortable lies because they're dishonest. they choose them because you taught them honesty wasn't safe.

If you cheated, it's not her job to chase you around trying to trust you again. It's your job to get out in front of it. Reassure her before she has to ask. That's the price of forgiveness. If you're not willing to do that work, you don't deserve to be forgiven.
