Call it a hot tub. Call it a jacuzzi. Call it OVER for the tons of snow piling up on our streets! Our snow melters are out and operational in all five boroughs. We bring snow from streets to central locations where melters turn the snow to water, giving us all a little more space.

Monday evening ops update: An official END OF STORM has been declared for 4:30pm! Property owners, that means you must shovel your sidewalk by 8:30pm, including a four-foot path for wheelchairs and strollers, as well as around any curb ramps, fire hydrants, and unsheltered bus stops that may be in front of your property. DSNY snow clearing operations are continuing. Our priority is to keep the roadways open, and we know that Staten Island was particularly hard hit. We’ve sent in extra reinforcements. Emergency Snow Shovelers will continue to be employed. Due to blizzard conditions in the current winter storm, pay for this weather event starts at $30 per hour. Want to register? Walk into a Sanitation garage, no appointment needed, from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM. Get more info here: Collection will be delayed during snow operations. If you have Tuesday recycling, please HOLD your material if you can. We will prioritize trash and compost once collection resumes. Stay tuned for further updates. (If you receive alleyway collection: alley service is suspended this week; your material should be placed curbside.) If you must travel tonight, please do so safely and carefully.

After days and days of working on BOTH snow operations and collection, we ARE catching up on trash and compost pickup. And we ARE collecting paper and metal/glass/plastic recycling, too, FAR FASTER than in previous storms. It’s a 24/7 operation – working on both collection and snow removal - running hundreds of collection trucks on every shift, 12 hours at a time, until we are fully caught up. Thousands of people are working to get this done as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your ongoing patience as we work to do it all.

Every week, nearly 500,000 cars violate street cleaning regulations, preventing us from sweeping more than 3000 miles of streets. YOUR street suffers when SOMEONE ELSE breaks the rules. We HATE that! We want to keep New York City clean, and you do too - right? Yesterday, the New York City Council voted YES on new state legislation to help us do our jobs. Now we need Albany to act!

We've got 24,000,000 pounds of waste to pick up every day, and, WE ARE DOING IT. Today is Thursday and we are collecting Thursday trash and compost today (though maybe not at the same time that you usually receive collection). Recycling collection may be a little behind. Snow operations continue, too. We continue to plow, haul, and clear snow from all over – and have now melted 215,000,000 pounds of it!

Sunday snow ops update While Mother Nature is doing her best to keep the snow around, New York’s Strongest REMAIN on the case and dedicated to snow clearing. We continue to work clearing snow from public areas such as crosswalks, curbs, ramps and corners. Snow melters are continuing to work, turning many tons of snow to water, and helping to clear our streets even further. Curbside collection continues, as we prioritize trash & compost. If you can, please hold your paper & metal/glass/plastic/carton recycling. Collection will be delayed during ongoing snow operations but know we are working on it. Stay warm, NYC.

IYKYK: Our specialized trucks don't get the day off. ASL trucks pull double duty, too. Our Automated Side Loaders, normally seen in Manhattan Community District 9 serving Empire Bins, are joining the 2,000 other plows in our fleet working to keep our streets open and passable today!

Salt spreaders are now spreading. Snowplows are now plowing. See where they have been at

“New York City, doing its job.” Andy and Sarah saw plows out last night – did you? Thousands of Sanitation Workers worked through the evening to keep you safe, and thousands more will do the same today and tonight. The snow officially ended at 5:30am, and property owners must clear sidewalks by 11:00 this morning. You may continue to put trash out on your regular schedule, but with ongoing snow operations and ANOTHER possible snowfall on Tuesday, some delays are possible. Rest assured, the Strongest are on their way. And remember, if Carrie Bradshaw can thank a Sanitation Worker, so can you!

Monday Evening Ops Update Ongoing snow operations = ongoing salt needs. And we’ve got that covered! Trash IS getting collected. Snow IS getting moved and melted. We are still working round-the-clock – workers are working 24/7 – on both collection AND snow removal. We’ve got hundreds of collection trucks on every shift, 12 hours at a time, and we plan to keep it going until we are totally caught up.

Snow is falling. It’s go time. Our salt spreaders are one of the first pieces of snow fighting vehicles you’ll be seeing today. They have ALREADY been on their routes for hours, dropping salt along the way. Once two inches of snow had fallen, they will be joined by our collection truck-turned snowplows. Stay warm, NYC.

New York's Strongest ran an enormous operation overnight on Staten Island, with 710 personnel and pieces of equipment shoveling, plowing, loading, and hauling away 87 dump truck loads full of snow. That work continues today. Remember NOT to put snow back into the street as you clear your sidewalk, driveway, or car.
