This one is for Hip Hop. I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of Hip Hop and how it contributes to who I am today. This is my first self choreographed performance and one of the most important things I wanted to highlight was my connection to black women through Hip Hop. With the help of hair artist Malcom Marquez, we were able to make this symbolic art performance come to life in just a short week. A special s/o to some of my inspirations; the incredible solange knowles @carlota_guerrero and DOOM (rip) A special s/o to my stylist @sam__woolf for nailing this look and translating my take on hip hop through clothing ! This is my take on the future of Hip Hop. This is blackness. This is luxury. This is history. Thank you to the The Late Show team for having us on your show! I couldn’t perform in my hometown without going back to where it all started Howard W. Blake High-School🐝 • I remember showing up to audition for the Chorus program with no training and no ability to read or compose music. I remember my chorus teacher asking me if I came with sheet music and all I had was the “At Last” instrumental from YouTube (the Beyonce version of course) and a aux chord 😂 I was accepted into the program b/c of my talent and because my mentors saw a seed and watered it. By the time I left performing arts school I was writing and reading music. More than ready to go independent as an artist! What an honor it was to speak to the gifted kids of Blake High School 👏🏿 the future icons of entertainment! If any student who missed my speech is reading this: take advantage of the resources available to you right now (because it costs allota money to get training when you’re older lol) get to class on time, practice at home while others are sleeping and collaborate with your peers. You have a gift, hone it, use it and be proud of it. When opportunity meets preparation A STAR IS BORN ! Thank you to everyone teacher that poured into me during my 4 years of school. You taught me DISCIPLINE at an age where it was very hard to focus lol I carry your lessons with me to this day. 4X Grammy nominated and I give a major part of that to Blake High-school and my mommy for for enrolling me ! STING 🐝
