Here’s our Adelaide section from last week’s Marketplace. We flagged Rasmussen’s return, and note mutual interest in a Matt Kenyon reunion. More importantly, though, we go in-depth on why these signings are happening; how the 5-player rule is impacting the 36ers’ decisions.

36ers head coach Mike Wells was immensely displeased with the officiating in Game 3 of the Championship Series. He notes Matthew Dellavedova having 0 fouls, and a lopsided foul count (Adelaide committed 24, to Sydney’s 11). Bryce Cotton drew 3 fouls (K. Davis drew 8) in 39 MIN.

A forceful, honest press conference from interim Bullets head coach Darryl McDonald: “They don’t need a coach. I’m right here, man.” McDonald said he hasn’t been able to get on the phone with owner Jason Levien, and that “there’s a contract on the table for a guy in the States.”

An emotional Dean Vickerman reflects on his time with Melbourne United. He talks player/ coach development (notes Ariel Hukporti and Jacob Chance currently in the NBA Playoffs) and changing the culture at MU: "Hopefully the club's in a better place for how we treated people."

JaVale McGee in his NBL debut: 32 points (15/20 FG), 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the Illawarra Hawks’ 91-86 loss to the JackJumpers. Just an extremely imposing physical presence; still notably athletic, with underrated footwork and touch on the low block.

Saw this on NBC Sports Boston’s TikTok page. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla reacts to Justin Tatum leading the Illawarra Hawks to an NBL Championship: “Congratulations to him… it was a big win. Game 5… 4th quarter rebounding. Made the plays at the end to win; so, happy for him.”

Monster game from projected 2026 lottery pick Karim Lopez: new career-high 32 points (11/13 FG, 1/2 3PT, 9/12 FT) + 8 rebounds in the NZ Breakers’ win over MEL. The 18-year-old had 19 points in the 4th Q, scoring at all three levels against one of the best defences in the NBL.

Justin Tatum on the officials stopping the game on a Dellavedova slip, but not after Kell’s injury: “That’s just a difference of respect between Melbourne and the Hawks… the NBL did a good job of making sure they put the right people on there to take care of who they needed to take care of.”

Brian Goorjian on the #NBL26 MVP race (in response to Mike Wells saying the race is over): “When I do this, I feel uncomfortable… no, it’s not over… no-one’s voted yet and [Kendric Davis] has had an unbelievable season… he’s definitely in the mix, and he’s definitely special.”

This was a really cool moment from the Samoa vs Fiji game, here at the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup. Samoa gives Fiji’s Semi Kuboutawa - one of the youngest players at the tournament, and the shortest at 4’7 - opportunities to score at the end of the game. The entire gym gets around him.

Reporting in this show: the Sydney Kings engaged with Kendric Davis’ representatives last week to begin discussions on a possible extension, sources told ESPN. Davis’ target remains the NBA, but he’s seen this season in Sydney as a success thus far and would be open to a return.
